Identification of points cover
« on: February 06, 2021, 08:11:31 PM »
Hi guys,

My CB500 four K0 project bike has a points cover that is not like any I have seen elsewhere.
And it is nothing like what I see on parts diagrams.

Can anyone explain this please?

Peter.

It’s an aftermarket piece.  I have these under my bed.

Do all cb500/4 have 3 screw points cover?...just curious as all the 550/750's have 2 screws and I have not worked on a cb500 before.
If it works good, it looks good...

Seanbarney41..............from what I have seen they have 2 screws.  That's why I'm confused with my bike, which has 3 screws.

And Medyo Bastos,............. looks like you have a points cover on the right hand side in your photo, which only has 2 screw holes.  But even that's odd as from what I've seen the engine casing holes are almost horizontal, which would make your 'SOHC' on an angle  pointed towards 1 o'clock.

Also an aftermarket product wouldn't be allowed to produce a product with 'HONDA' on it.

It's off a Honda 350 twin , other side of motor.
And if not that then the 450..

And while you can not produce a cover today that says Honda.... legally..
20 or more years ago many people were doing it  for a long time..

ok...so the 2 hole orientation...cb750 has holes exactly 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock cb550 has 'em more diagonal, I assumed the 500 was the same but don't really know

Peter, have you had that cover off yet?

500 has 2 holes but not at 12 and 6 o'clock like the 750.
So this must have an adaptor in between..

Thanks guys.

I'll look at the 350 / 450 diagrams.

SeanBarney41, no, haven't had the cover off yet.  Screws have been done up by a gorilla.  Have WD-40 on them at moment.

That cover has  to be bigger than the case behind it.  What else is on that motor ?
If you can't get them out drill them.

Bought an impact driver to get that cover off and yes there is an adaptor plate behind it.
And yes the cover is slightly larger in diameter.  The adaptor plate tapers down to the true engine case size.
