Hey Guys,
I have a question regarding taking a bike over to Europe, specifically Portugal, and registering it there. Apparently they require an official technical spec sheet for my bike. Is this something I can get from Honda? I didn't know these existed. The registration history from the Ministry of Transportation here in Canada is not adequate. They want technical specs for my specific bike.
Anyone heard of this?

The specifications written in the shop manual?

If there are other registered bikes of same model, these can be used as examples?

Apparently that's not good enough. They're asking for an official sheet for this exact bike. Sounds ridiculous to me.

They want an official document for my bike specifically. It can't just be a copy and paste from the internet. I know it sounds crazy but it's what they want.

I have all documents for my CB750 K2. Not much written in them.
I have a copy of the application to get the bike registrated.

The Honda importer in Sweden filled in a std document and sent to the vehicle registration department.
Not more than my registration has today.

If importing to my country, not much extra needed if the bike type already is imported and registrated before.

Only correct documentation from previous owner.

It might help if you can get another bikes registration details except for the frame number registrated in Portugal.

What is specific for the bike except for frame number? Here no engine number in old docs. Probably for newer.

This is the closest thing I could find for a spec sheet:

https://www.motorbikecatalog.com/auta_details1.php

Did they give you, or did you ask for, an example of what they want?

Now if you just want to get this done and are out of options I would just make one and send it over to them and see what they say.  I assume they want a nice PDF since you are probably emailing this to them so I would recommend making one using the information from the link above and put it together using Photoshop/InDesign/Word and include a nice Honda Motor Company logo at the top of each page and their contact info for their corp offices in a footer on each page. Try to make it look official and then copy and paste those tables and paragraphs in while maintaining their formatting and you should have a really nice looking spec sheet in about 30 mins.  I feel like worst case they would just say it is not what they want and we can try again.

yeah right. copy-paste some unverified info from a random website and make it look like a document issued by honda... there's a name for that.

ask them for a specification of what exactly they need, who it needs issued by etc. with a reference to documentation.
usually both the tax and vehicle registration authorities have websites with pages describing the process of importing and registering.

as pewe says, a "spec sheet" for your specific vehicle (not the general model) sounds like an unusual requirement. there may be something getting lost in translation.

Actually, your best chance is asking the Germans. Every bike model there is 'eingetragen'. The document looks like this, be it that his one is about the CB500.

I'm sorry I was not thinking (somewhat young and stupid) and coming at it from an angle of desperation thinking if the only thing standing in the way of me being able to export my bike to my new home was a Honda Spec Sheet that does not exist, or I would have to sell it, I would make a spec sheet with valid information and present it to them because at the end of the day they will say "yes this is the info we are looking for" or "No this is not it" and it would either be done with or you try something else.  But you are right and honesty is always the best policy.

I had a thought that maybe you are talking about having to get a CoC (Certificate of Compliance) and that is a whole other deal and not something you will find unless you get it from Honda and not sure if they will do it for older bikes but definitely worth filling out the form to find out.  You could also give them a call but if this is what you need definitely do not try and make one of these on your own ;D

I really hope this helps you!

Interesting how this will be solved.
Portugal an alternative for us frozen Swedes when retire ;)
South coast, Faro- Albufeira.

Better tax alternative than here and very popular Spain.

Maybe different when moving with own vehicles.
Covid-19 and other future obstacles for people to move on vacations might end up in one way ticket where climate is better for folks and bikes.

Actually I need it for my CB500, and that looks to be the exact type of document needed!

Ok, let me ask the Germans for you, if they can post that document in a good resolution. Just to be sure, please specify your model: CB500, CB500K1, CB500K2 or CB500K3. BTW, the CB500 (Four) was/is well known in Portugal.

I've got a 1973 Honda CB500 K2 first sold in Canada. Thanks!

I'm building the bike for my father. He will take it. He will be the registered owner.

Just read this on the German Forum.
You need a technical data sheet corresponding your frame number.
I have done this a couple of times in the past.

You can obtain it at: info@honda.de

So... how is your German...?

Really good to know.
I guess they do not do this for free, right?

Google translate fix it to German under 1 sec when pasting an English text ;D

Well... it used to be 23 euro including postage.
They upped that to 60 euro.
However, if the bike is not originally from the EU it is called gray import and it will cost 120 euro.
Don't hold me to it. Prices change.

The reason you can do this in Germany has to do with the way a registration number is distributed in Germany.
The German way: if you have no documentation at all you start collecting until you have so many documents the registration office is impressed with you and as a reward, you'll get registration.
I even got some bikes on the road here that was impossible to get registered in for instance; The Netherlands.
A Chiangjang with a sidecar and a c70 solely produced for the Japanese market.
Now I am registering a Honda Monkey from 1970 which had no papers whatsoever.
Used on the US army base in Stuttgart it never needed registration...

90blacknight, I would contact Honda Portugal. I mean, the CB500 has been imported in Portugal in the 70s and there are still some around. The ACP, the Portugese version of the AA, a tourist organisation may also help you. Their website is www.acp.pt. They will inform you, even if you're not a member.

Gruzzel (German site) was so kind to mail me a good readable TDS. In Germany this is an official Data Sheet.
