Yeah mate, don’t worry about waiting 2-3 weeks, that’s just BS. I used to paint cars for money and using that strategy it would take weeks, if not months, to paint a car, something that I would usually do, complete with rust repairs, in a few days.
If you have areas with no etch primer at all, just buy another rattle can and (providing you’re painting somewhere warm) just spray a couple of light coats over the bare areas, let it “flash off” then apply the primer, when it’s dry give the primer a light rub back with 600-800 grit paper to “De-Knib” it, then wipe it with prep wash (wax and grease remover, usually also available in a rattle can) wipe it dry, run a tack cloth over the whole deal to remove any dust or lint, then hit it with the top coat, easy peasy.
Powdercoat on Comstars has plenty of issues too, it’ll be a nightmare for a powdercoater to ensure that during the baking process no old grease, oil or roadkill runs out from inside and ruins the finish, so the only way you could ensure a perfect job would be to strip the wheels, drill out all the rivets, media blast the insides of the “spokes”, powdercoat every piece then either rivet them, or screw them back together, hoping that you haven’t ruined their structural integrity. Just paint’em mate, take your time, and be happy with what you’ve achieved for not much money.
