After having gone through
3 bombers
2 K1
2 k2

Bomber remains most expensive to complete and revive. K1 takes second place in $ spent though parts are super expensive.

Bought 1 for 1750$ and spent about 3700$ to complete it as road worthy.

Second one bought for 4500$ and spent 1000$ to complete it as road worthy.

Third one bought for 6500$ spent 150$

Ultimately they sit at certain bracket no matter where you start or is that only me  ?

I had a 66 which I turned into a Scrambler using the D kit tank and other parts.  The D exhaust was missing from the kit and I used some TT pipes for a while.  Later I found a stock 70 scrambler exhaust.  It was constantly modified and ended up with the engine in a AEE chopper rigid frame with a 10" over fork.  I got Brit fever and foolishly traded it for a BSA 650.  A couple of years later I found a nice 72 CL450 and rode it for several years.  Personally I don't see the desire for a Black Bomber but I would like to have a nice 68-69 CL450 preferably in candy red.  Last year at the Eustis, FL VMA/VJMC meet a guy had a bomber for sale.  It was pretty rough and would have taken a lot of work/cash to bring it to rider standards. He was loudly telling everyone that it was quite rare and valuable.  Just down the next row a guy had at least 5 bombers in better shape and was selling them at reasonable prices.  I heard him tell a potential buyer that he had 3 more at home and enough parts to build 2 more. So shop around!

Interesting

This rare thing is really rare!

1976 GL1000 Ltd, 2500 bikes came to North America, 500 of which to Canada, I got one and thought it is absolutely a score, 1/500, later in same year, 4 more in my garage. It did cost quite a bit to complete ONE, later noticed ct70/90 are being sold for way more than a GL1000.

Bought a bomber out of US, brought it home, transportation, import and border duties, securing missing parts, $$$ and haven’t seen a single one come up for sale on local classified in last 3-5 years.

On the other hand Z50s are sold for crazy $, wonder how these benchmarks are established.

Few months ago saw a D kit for bomber, seller wanted 4500$, roadster kit for a step through C100, (49cc) listed for 3500$.

Thanks for your insight Jim.  I think the Bomber is a significant bike in motorcycle history, I rarely see them and how many SOHC bikes can you have? [I have 5]  The bike I am going to check out seems to be priced under value so if I just want to keep it a couple years, I should be able to sell it for at least what I will pay.  We'll see, I've never rode one and may hate it, but that is doubtful.

Steve-O, I have never owned one but have ridden a couple 450's.  If you like those twin cylinder vibes, the 450 is as good(or better!) as any.  And they are not too small ergonomics wise.
If it works good, it looks good...

Hey Sean...yes, I do like the later 450's as well.  I have a buddy who has a very nice one, '72 maybe?  Although, on a ride two years ago, his bike started smokin' when he was trying to keep up with us on our 750's.  He had to get it brought back to camp in the back of a truck.  But he rebuilt it and all good.

Steve-0...... a few years ago, on a last minute decision, I rode to a JVMC event in Gettysburg (from Southern Ontario). My buddy (it was his idea), planned the route and we never used an interstate highway. Fabulous ride, he was on his “Black Bomber” and I rode my Flake Orange cb750K4 (it has a small luggage rack fitted).

We rode a few thousand miles, and swapped bikes, more than once. Two weeks after we got home, he bought a cb750K8! Just sayin’.

Just sayin' what?!  That I shouldnt have bought a CB450 to ride on the Interstate?

I dont wanna ride any bike on the Interstate, period. Boring.  Several years ago, five of us traveled by bike from Houston to El Paso, TX without riding on Interstate, a total of nearly 750 miles in 16 hours!

Well done!.  I would bet 90% got the bars changed to western style or apehangers before they left the dealership.

I've really enjoyed riding the Bomber over the last month or so since I got it, havent changed the handlebars yet.
Yes, it vibrates like a twin, and not as fast as most my other bikes but is so cool!
I think it fits nicely into my collection of bikes that have historical significance  [CB750, Kawasaki Z1, Kawasaki H1 & H2, Yamaha RD350, Suzuki X6]

Aloha Steve... the X6 was my first "real" bike back when I was a teen, handed down from my brother when he got a car.  I remember doing 100 mph on that bike, only a 247cc but had a six speed trans [hence X6]
The bike I have is not that one but very similar.

Here's a couple pics from back in 2019 at the Harvest Classic [Vintage bike show and campout]
