The sad fate of CB750-1009060
« on: March 01, 2021, 08:41:28 AM »
CB750-1009060 a very nice original paint 69 CB750 sold for $6950 on November 16, 2020.
The new owners (Lee Custom Cycles in Dover New Hampshire) destroyed it, fuked it up beyond repair,  and now want to sell it on ebay.

They're about 45 miles from me, I've driven by and sensed the attitude. They must need to cover bills to make a move like that.

Huh?  Are you trying to say they over-restored it?  Was it your bike?

7k was a really good price for that bike. if that's how much you're selling them for when you're done then let me know next time..

That was my thinking, they're only original once.

Nice bike to begin with, what did they to it to increase the value 4 times over? The new buyer spending that kind of money would want to see some sort of forum following where the work gets documented.

What did they do to mess it up? Looks like they meticulously cleaned it up and replaced some parts. $29K is a crack pipe price, but that's their problem -- they'll either get it or they won't.

I personally make it a point not to follow a bike I've sold.  I do the same thing with cars and houses.  No matter what the later owner does, good or bad, I probably won't like it because it's not what I would have done.

It looks decent, but they are asking a dreamer price and don't give any information at all on what was done to it. In my experience dealers are hackjobs, so it probably needs a lot. A non-running, quick and dirty cosmetic restoration, with many wrong parts, on a K1 recently sold for over $13k. Values are all over the place and hard to tell what's "normal" or "market" right now based off few sales. I don't doubt that the flippers selling this cut plenty of corners though. Super sketchy off the bat is a Maine title on a bike being sold by an owner in NH, that would be a hard no for me right off the bat since they can't even get their paperwork straight and I live in arguably the worst state in the country for destroying historical vehicles over minor paperwork when there is clearly no issue of theft.

Dunk,I heard that NJ is the toughest state to get a vehicle that's 'off the books' back into the system.

Yes, it's effectively impossible in NJ. It can be done if you go outside of NJ to re-establish paperwork, feasible through VT if under 300cc. That rules out the vast majority of bikes... Certainly the more desirable ones. VIN inspection is a gamble if police will steal your bike.

NJ sucks in every way imaginable, even more so in the past year... to not get too political. Every day in this state is miserable for a great number of reasons. I'm working on expediting my exit strategy, it's so bad have considered selling my bikes to do so given crazy prices some bikes are selling for. I'm waiting until November to do anything drastic though.

Don't jump to conclusions without full knowledge......

Actually being from NH I can tell you that NH does not require a title on vehicles prior to 1999. As he is a dealer he can get a title for it easily for the new owners having the previous title and registration. He may also be selling it on consignment for the owner being his shop is only @ 20 miles to the Maine border.

I bought a CB350K4 rolling chassis from a man in Trenton back when I was living in Bethlehem,PA. and a member here on sohc4 who had a Summer residence in VT. and a residence in NJ. helped me get the VT. reg. to get it registered.I like that it's back in the system, rather than turned into scrap.  ;)
