Removed and replaced the seal behind the front sprocket. It looks like the cases were damaged and repaired years ago. Looks like weld and some sort of bondo/epoxy was used. It looks pretty good, except for a crack up near the top, where I was able to insert a small wire into the cases. Is there an epoxy or jb weld that I can use just over the crack? I've never used jb weld or anything on an oily surface,  how clean does the area have to be?   I'm looking for opinions on how to proceed,  I'll search the forum and see what I can find.

Ouch.... never saw that. Take a Dremel tool with a smal, conical bit. Grind a shallow “V” in the crack there. Clean really well with spray brake cleaner. I use the JBWeld that comes in two tubes, base and hardener. Mix them really well, 50/50, and apply with a small, flat applicator. Very good stiff.

I was just looking at that seal on my s/c project. Is that a drywall screw you drove into the seal? I usually change those when I split the cases, but will give it a try.

I believe it's called a lath screw. It has a panhead, it was just what I had on hand, but it worked great. I wrapped packaging tape around the shaft, slid the seal on, and used a 2 inch pvc pipe with a cap to pound the seal in place.

One of the bikes oil leaks was coming from the shifter/kickstand area. I ordered new a new chain and sprockets and found this front sprocket, I've ordered stock replacement parts and I'll swap them out. I pulled the front sprocket off and it looks like it's missing the rubber orifice altogether.  What are people doing to eliminate the chain oiler? I'll have to come up with something.

There are a few posts on plugs that owners made to fit the hole to stop the oil flow using the plug with an O-ring.

Joker machine sells a plug, though I wouldn't fill the insides completely with RTV as they say in their instructions. I haven't bought one to know how tight their plug fits in the hole.

Thanks for sharing that thread, I hadn't seen that one in my searching.  I have sourced a good rubber orifice,  so I guess I'll be using that until some one makes something similar to what Frank had made.

I've used a screw a few times, but most of the time I use a sharp punch to poke a hole through.  Then I use a tool pick to pry it out.

Been for a ride yet??

Not yet. I've still got to change the oil pan gasket,  degrease the engine, and finish cleaning out the carbs. When pulled the carbs, I found some slight clogging of a jet, hard o rings, and a jet with the mikuni logo and three without. I'm currently waiting on a delivery from jetsrus. Hope to set the carbs up possibly this weekend and replace the oil pan gasket too.

I'm wondering if there are clip positions to adjust, seems to be rich. I haven't had a chance to check float height yet, I was waiting for the jets and o rings.
