CB750F2 77-78 Swingarm
« on: March 02, 2021, 08:39:53 AM »
I have a 1977 Honda CB750F2 super sport model and I've noticed that the rear swingarm is asymmetric (sprocket side is further from the centerline than the brake side) and wider than that of the earlier '76 F models and the K models which were symmetric. I was planning on fitting the spoked hub from a '76 F model with the disc brake so I could convert the current comstar wheels to spoked wheels but I'm assuming the '76 hub won't fit on the '78 swingarm. Does anyone know why the '78 model swingarm is wider than all the other CB750 swingarm designs? Would I be able to swap out the hubs if I used a '76 swingarm and modified the rear suspension mounting points on the frame or would I end up with other clearance or alignment issues down the line?

If you want to use the spoke wheel, you will need the later sprocket carrier for your swingarm and it will fit into the spoke hub. They were offset to make room for the 630 chains Honda started using in '77, which is total overkill now, so if you need sprockets, do yourself a favor and convert to 530 chain.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

Spacers etc are the same. As stated it's the sprocket carrier that has the 10mm offset.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
