SUPER PISSED!!!!
« on: February 22, 2007, 04:23:34 PM »
So Get this! I have been looking for a daily rider for a while now and have sort of decided that I wanted a Katana 600.

Anyways, I found a 2000 Kat 600 for $3000 on Craigslist and contact the guy. We trade emails on Tuesday and make an appointment for 5:30 today to come out and have a look at the bike and I assure the guy that I am VERY interested and he suggests that he will not take any offers before I get there and have a look at it in the day light. I drive the hour and a bit out there to see the bike and as I pull infront of the house I see him in the driveway with a guy who has his helmet in his hand! I figure hmmmm guess he is covering his ass by letting someone else see the bike....

I get out of the car and start walking up the driveway and the other guy takes a piece of paper and puts his head down and walks by without saying a word. I look at the seller and he looks back and says "Dennis man you're going to kill me"...

Right then I knew the dickhead sold it! The jerkoff then goes on to say that this guy called and wouldnt leave him alone blah blah blah...he didnt have my number to let me know....didnt think I would get his email in time... anyways, we exchange a few words (several of them in the 4 letter category) and I drive away. I then have the hour long drive home (on a friggin toll road on a day when the gas prices have hit the highest they have been in months!) to think about this dick and what he did.

Right now I am going to let the dust settle as all of our exchanges have been via email from my work account but give it a month or so and I suspect this guys work email will suddenly start receiving lots of gay porn spam! I also wonder how his wife is going to like the phone calls she gets from some of my female friends who claim they met him at the bar and how he gave them his number and can't figure out why a married man would do such a thing!

With any luck real Karma will get this dick long before I have a chance to start making his life difficult. Wish I was more like Cheapo and just punched him in the head at the time and probably would have had my exchanges with him not originated from my work account.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Thanks guys! Funny...I am starting to feel that way myself...amazing how we only see what we want to see. I did a bunch of online research and heard mostly good things about the Kat and since being pissed off tonight and messing around on the puter I have seen nothing but negative reviews. Maybe Karma does play a role but not in the way I had initially hoped.

Problem is that cash is always a concern and I really liked the price....oh well guess I can cut out bought lunches at work and save for a decent bike like a ninja 6 or a gixxer! If only I can still afford the insurance!

i pay 30 bucks a month for full coverage on my 92 zx7r and liability on the 73 cb350f... as long as you don't have too many tickets you should be ok as long as you don't go too new on whatever rocket you decide on.
also, i paid 1800usd for my 7r... you just gotta do some shopping  ;)
katanas are worst of the worst in the sportbike realm in my opinion... i'm glad he made the better decision for you.  haha

I worked with a guy for a long time trying to settle on a price. The title was 3 inches from my outstretched hand when he says, "Let me make a quick call."  Turns out he was using me to fugure a price and I guess the guy on the phone had a standing offer for X amount more.

The owner of that bike has infused the bike with Godawful karma.  He did you a favour.  You owe Cosmo a big "Thanks". When you cool off, you'll realize it.
Don't lower yourself to his level. You lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas.

Your average humanoid on this planet has little or no Honor and isn't really that bright.

Yes boys and girls, most of the people you meet are frigging selfish morons w/out vision. They don't see the big picture. Tunnel vision and the sight of $$$$ or females render them almost totally useless. (sorry Guys, Girls are afflicted too)

Your close friends may sell you out for a few hundred dollars thinking.... Short term....... couple hundred bucks. Long term........ Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......Couple hundred bucks now.

All money is good for is trading for things and starting fires. Maybe pad you bed. People and friends can be invaluable.

My good friend went to buy a car that was in the paper. As he walked to the door, another Dude jumped outta the car and ran to the door in front of him.. As Wes walked up Dude said "sorry man I got here first"
When the door opened, Dude was unconscious. The owner asked what happened? Wes said he ran into my hand, let's go look at the car. When it was all done, Wes got the car and the #$%* got stitches 8)

While the seller is definitely a wanker and you have every right to be pissed, a Katana is not even remotely worth getting that upset.  They are one of the ugliest bikes ever made. Porky and poorly suspended too. If you want a newish bike for $3000, a Suzuki SV650 is WAY better than a fugly Katana.

You should be thankful someone else ended up spending his hard earned money on a pig like that.

This sort of thing happens so much that I get real uneasy when a seller promises that they will not sell to anyone else. In fact, I was afraid that the trailer I am buying (different thread) would be sold out from under me.

I asked the seller if they would hold iit till monday when I have the $ in hand and the promised they would, but only if I was absolutely sure I was buying it (which I am). Even with their promises I emailed again emphasizing my sincerity and offering 50% down. They said no need to pay half, just come over monday (and the will actually deliver the trailer since I haven't installed a hitch on my jeep yet).

Hopefully I won't be posting on here monday night, pissing and moaning about getting screwed over!

I can identify with the subject of this one. Actually, I've been on both sides of this one. On one hand, When I was trying to sell our house (My daughter had started to school in another town close by because it was a much better system), had made adeal on another and needed to get this one gone pronto! We were starting to get desperate (a deadline was drawing near and I would end up trying to make TWO house payments a month! A man (supposedly prominent)and his wife arranged to see our house and was looking to buy it for his son and his family. They seemed so impressed with the house, it's location and even the price. We were really relieved since we were going to be able to sell the house and move on. They were so excited about the house! We never heard another word from them! :P ::)
I felt like drop kicking him into the next county! Fortunately, not too long after that, we managed to sell the house foe slightly less but, sold it all the same.
On the buyer's side of this, I was going to take some of our tax return and get me a fairly decent riding mower a few years ago. I searched the newspaper classifieds and came upon a fairly new 12hp Yard Machine mower. Called the owner (a woman) and arranged to check it out the next day (she wouldn't be available until then). I asked where she lived & told her I'd be over the next afternoon with a trailer and the money. She worked during the day and I had to wait until the bus came by to drop off the 2 young men that we work with before I could leave. That next afternoon came, the bus came, I had the trailer hooked up, we left, stopped by the atm, got the money, arrived at my destination only to be told by the woman that "she sure wished that she had my phone number so I wouldn't have had to drive so far. Fortunately I had only driven about 45minutes. Good thing is, I ended up buying a 10 year old Craftsman 18hp 42' cut Garden Tractor with a blade on the rear and it was in pretty good shape.

Its all good Heff....If you need to get out there and do 1.5 ton....you go man!!! I used to have a desire to go that fast but I guess it just isn't that important anymore. My younger cousin's 18 yr. old kid showed up the other day with a Kawi 1000 something or other rocket the other day. He is 18 yrs. old  and his balls are on fire for speed. He told me how it does over the ton in 2nd gear and all this and that and how he already has 4 or 5 tickets and blah, blah, blah. I don't think this kid is gonna make it but you can't tell him any different and besides....who am I to try?

Ernie, I know what you mean about guys not showing up...funny thing in this case was I was early by about 15-20 minutes and because the dude had said that he couldn't do any earlier than 5:30 I went for a bit of a drive to kill time and not annoy the guy...would have been funny to walk in as the other guy was looking at it! By the way...I never asked the guy to hold it...it was him who had said that he wouldn't take any other offers otherwise I would have called him before heading out just to be sure...

Ah well I am a big believer in fate and I think this may have saved me in the long run...the only reason I was looking at the Katana was as it is my first real street bike (the K8 will hopefully be on the road this summer too) I wanted something with a little less power but more comfort for longer trips...think I'll hold out for the SV...saw one on Craigslist this morning....hmmmmm

An SV650 is superior to the Kanatuna in every way... save for wind protection. And that can be addressed in the aftermarket.

If you want the best long-distance comfort for your money, get a /6 or /7 BMW.  I think the 800 would be ideal.
'70s and early '80s Beemes with "S" bars are the most comfortable bikes ever made.  They can handle OK, too.

Ah Think you'all are full a bull.
The 600 Katana is a great bike and
if the seller bailed out on me I would be major upset also.
You can not compare it to a SV650, (junk in my opinion).

I have had Katana's in the past and always loved them.
Surely there are others out there, just calm down. You will
find another.

I just recently spent a long time looking  for a ride (honda civic)
....had it 3 weeks and got rear-ended, totaled.
Am I pissed, yeah sortof, but now I figure I will just find something better.
good luck

My first bike was a Katana. I'm sorry, but "Great" and Katana do not go in the same sentence together. To each his own of course.

The ones that make me laugh are the guys who are SO ENTHUSED LOVE IT  >I just need to talk to my wife<

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa  See ya wouldn't wanna beeya !

A couple of weeks ago I saw an ad for a Sanglas -spanish bike- for 500 euro. It's not really collectable as it has a Yamaha XS400 engine. I said to myself "enough with four bikes, don't ring the guy". Three days later the ad was still there and I made a call. The bike has been sitting for four years, starter motor doesn't work -I suspect the starter clutch- 500 euro, at just 10 minutes drive from my home. I make an appointment with the man but he tells me somebody will call him at 17:00 to make an appointment. "Fair enough, then let's meet at 16:30 so I have the first chance".

I go there, see the bike, in good shape, the price is right, I like it. I was honest to the man and told him: "I like the bike, but I have another four, two of them in restoration process. Let me think a little about it, and also let me discuss it with my wife. I know what I want but you know women need to feel their opinion counts". He told me OK, but he was meeting another one later. I told him "OK, if he buys it then good for you".

I returned home, talked to my wife who was not very enthusiastic, but at the end I convinced her. Phoned the man and he told me "another guy was here but what a jerk, when he came he told me "wow, this bike is bigger than I expect". Didn't he know what he was looking for". So we made a deal over the phone but I needed a trailer, he accepted to consider the bike sold but insisted I would not back off. I told him I didn't struck a deal in the spot because I wanted to be sure, and I was calling after that so I was sure. I couldn't get the trailer in three days and phoned him. No problem on his side but he seemed a little concerned I would change my mind while he was turning prospective buyers off. I told him I would pay him and make the title transfer even if the bike remained in his home until I could get the trailer. That's what we did and I picked the bike up a few days ago.

I belong to a Sanglas club and one of the members posted an ad selling parts for my other bike. I called him and meet at his house. After we had been chatting for a while about parts and so, he tells me: "do you know I was about to buy your new bike?" -I posted about it in the forum too-. I was shocked. So it was you the one who met the seller and told him it was bigger than you think? WTF! You already have one bike like that, you know how big is it!. He told me "listen, I couldn't resist the low price so I had to see it with my very eyes. Once I was there I could see the bike was in good shape, the seller seemed to be a nice man, but I thought I hade enough with five bikes to get a sixth one. I was embarrased to admit it, or tell my wife wouldn't let me, so I played the newbie telling him I had only ride mopeds and it seemed too big for me". Funny thing is the guy has a BMW R1200, and several Sanglas bikes. He is a commercial pilot. I wonder what the seller thought about him...

Now back to the original post, everytime I make an appointment to see a vehicle I ask if somebody will see it before me. When the seller says people has called but nobody has an appointment, I insist I WANT THE FIRST CHANCE. And if for our timetable it takes a few days to finally meet and some other buyer arrange to have a more flexible schedule, I insist I want to have the right to decide even if somebody sees it first. In that case I ask the seller to tell the buyer he has promised to me I will have the first option, and in case I don't want it he will be second. Actually I don't think it can work if somebody put the money down before me, but when you want something and you are doing your part it's normal to ask the seller to do his part too.

Ordinarily I'd agree with this statement, but if someone voluntarily says they'll hold the bike for a specific person (like this seller did), then they are a low-life if they don't keep their word.

That's a lot of insisting for someone who hasn't actually forked over any cash.  When I'm selling something, I Just say that the first person to show up with the correct amount of cash leaves with the merchandise.  No matter who called first.
