Unidentified part CB500
« on: March 06, 2021, 06:17:00 PM »
Hi All,
Does anyone know where this bracket goes? I've checked the parts manual and can't see one quite like it. Bolt hole is 8mm and it looks like it was bolted from the back, as in looking upward in the pic.
Thanks,
Kevin

Does it have a 4 into 1 on it ?
Looks like an aftermarket  center stand stop...

No, no markings. Too lightweight to be a stop, looks like a cable retainer, but bigger diameter than plug lead or control cable. I have 2, but also 2 bikes, so not sure if 1 per bike, or both off the same machine. Looks like it is bolted to a flat rectangular or square surface. Won't fit on breather cover, so not plug lead retainer.

Kev - I think they are HT lead guides / holders that bolt to valve cover screws on each side (one each for 1 and 4 cylinder leads).

JT, that's what I thought initially too, but there's a raised bit at the back so it won't sit flat on the breather cover, and the diameter is too large for ignition cables. Also looks different to the pic in the parts manual, that has a rounded end where the bolt goes, this is square.

Done quite a few 500 and dont remember that but something like it on later bikes to hold front brake hose

Thought about the front brake hose bit, but it the hole is too small for it to fit to the lower triple clamp bolt, and it won't fit to the brake light switch\hose union because of the right angle return on it. Re being related to an aftermarket exhaust ( see photo) don't think it's associated with this system, and the other bike didn't have an exhaust at all, when purchased. Plus, I have 2 identical brackets, and have really only disassembled one bike so far ( more or less)

it doesn't look like any OEM part.
i'd just keep it in case it can be used for something but not stress out about it missing somewhere.

I think it may go over the post on the frame for your front tank rubber, then put the tank rubber on to hold it in place.  My cb750f0 has two similar parts on the lh tank rubber post for holding the the throttle cables and wiring harness.  I have not seen these used on other sohc4's, so I don't know if the 750F0 is the only model to use them, or if some p.o. added them, or if they were frequently discarded...

Thanks for all the replies, folks.
I'm sure its not a showstopper and can be fitted at a later date if I ever find out where it's supposed to go. A way to go before I get to that stage.
Thanks again, all.

Pratt and Whitney engine mounting bracket, perhaps? :) One per engine; would explain many things.

If it's a centre stand stop, where does it go? Neither of my 2 bikes, as supplied, had centrestands fitted, and, as previously mentioned only 1 had an exhaust system, if you can describe it as that. I can't see anywhere on the bike to fit that bracket where it would fulfill that purpose. It could have been mixed up with some 550 parts that came with that bike, maybe.

your pic made it look hhhuge!
it is the brake line handle for a 650 fender goes on the left side and is held on with the bolt like the cb500 ignition brackets are held on
