Ok, I'm new to the form and like to say there are some true CB 750 people here. I see there are a few members that say they are old timers, I can say I'm a old timer. I've had K1, K2 and K3 during the 70's. Used to drag race a 836 that ran 11.7 & 124 mph. Got a new 1980 CBX and then later in life got a 79 CBX. Long story short I have 2 K4's. One I need to check the top end as I didn't like the oil flow. The other one is a rolling frame with a frozen motor. I now have some time in life to work on them. So seeing my back ground I something I want to pass this on.
The issue the CB 750's jumping out of second gear is the three dogs on the 31T gear, wears from being round to being egg shape. Back in the day I learned that you can pull 31T and the shift fork out the side without splitting the engine. I've done this more than 5 times. The trick is that the shift drum has to be, (this is where I can't remember) between 3rd and 4th. Or between 4th and 5th. With the drum in this position the middle and inner shift forks will not fall into the transmission. If this happens you have to split the motor.
I'm sure this will get some response/ feedback, but I wanted to let everybody know this can be done but first it needs to be determined what position the shift drum needs to be in. When I tear into one of my motors, I will confirm and do a wright up.
