K7 K8 swingarm conversion to earlier 750 frames.
« on: March 15, 2021, 07:46:11 PM »
Late bike , ie 77 and 78 have wider spacing of shocks, this one side longer mount is shown in the picture .

Also shown in the pic is the relative position of the washer and bolt on the stud, once you move  the shock out with a spacer...... showing what your shock mount will look like if you try this conversion.  On early frames.
So you can see that the threads are too short. What Scottly has done and I proposed  was a conversion nut and spacer to make this all work.  Will add more details soon.

If you plan on using a grab rail  or rack, you will have to drill the hole to 15mm or 5/8 to be able to use  it..

Frank, check in with KMB69. He may be able to provide details of the one he made for my conversion.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I have the design worked out in my head,
Just remember , the shock body MUST BE SUPPORTED, so the part inside the shock , must be 15mm or 5/8 diameter.
The easiest way if you have lathe  access is to cut down a coupling nut , but it won't look same as an Acorn nut.
My idea is make an acorn nut, with  the 15mm part in one piece.
I can make a drawing soon.

Do you think this could be made easiest by modifying a stainless 10mm lug nut?

If the shank is 15mm , and thread is 8 x 1.25mm go for it, but wheel nuts can be tougher to turn.
My thought of course , was to make it look identical to Stock...
Of course coupler nut if you can live with hole in end Is easiest.
Lug nut may not give you enough length  at 15mm..

I am thinking to do a frame swap, i have 77K with the frame chopped up, i have a 72 frame, to use, so i need a spacer for the shock.
Will the motor fit ok in the Frame ?
