1978 CB350F Front wheel spacer?
« on: March 19, 2021, 06:13:41 PM »
Hi, Dumb question.  My front wheel on this 1978 CB350F with disk brake in front slides 1/4 inch along the wheel shaft left to right.  How do you fix this?  Maybe I left off a couple washers to keep it from sliding left/right on the shaft.  I don't see from the diagram washers on this.  Maybe twist part #3 to firm it up?  Thanks for the advice.

Have you put the spindle nut on the wrong way round, hex to wheel is how it should be

So you tighten the axle nut and the wheel slides axially? What is the nut tightening on, the end of the threads?

Definitely check the nut is the right way around. I don't recall whether reversing the nut makes it fail to go on far enough to clamp up, but you for sure won't have much fun mounting the wheel with it backwards.

The axle nut absolutely must tighten up hard against the spacer that goes into the oil seal on the bearing retainer.
The stack of parts must be clamped securely on the axle by that nut.
This goes:
axle bolt head - speedo drive centre - hub bearing inner race (no retainer) - hub spacer (inside hub) - hub bearing inner race (with retainer ring) - spacer (in seal) - axle nut.

Fixed now.  The current-owner forgot to Torque the wheel nut.  It tightened down good.  Made my front brake solid now.  Thanks for the assist.
