Super Sport F2 1978, something missing in the brakes?
« on: March 20, 2021, 12:16:41 PM »
Hi,

so after an on-off hiatus from the CB 750 project I actually got around to starting to reassemble the bike, which has been partly disassembled for the last 6 years and an top of that been moved from one location to another (which is why is can be a little hard to remember how things looked in the first place). It seems like I´m missing one of the following retainers/metal thingy that the brake pads slide on (fronts and rear are identical), as well as two of the clips that goes between the brake piston at the back of the brake pads (see attached pictures).
I´m not sure how important the latter is, as it seems to resemble the anti-squeal shim that is commonly used on car brakes - I can live with a little extra noise as long as it is not unsafe to ride without?
Regarding the former, I haven´t really found it on any drawings or microfiche, and Google didn´t help that much either, so if anybody can shed light on a part number or the term for this, I would be very grateful - I suspect this a more important part as it seems to be made of stainless steel and would help avoid the brake pads from sticking due to corrossion.

Thanks in advance  :)

First one is important but may be difficult to find, second one you can do without but it ought to be there
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Here you go

Funny enough, I had actually checked the parts fiche on CMSNL but only for the 78 Super Sport, and it didn´t show the retainers:

What about the shim for the pads, are these a necessity or just nice to have?
