Stripped carb sync threads
« on: March 19, 2021, 09:25:29 PM »
Just when I thought I had it all together...

When I was taking apart my carbs for cleaning I noticed that the carb sync retaining nut between #3 and #4 was binding a little when I was removing it, but didn't think much of it. Fast forward to me putting them back together and syncing them, the screw itself went into the sync plate just fine, but when I tried to put on the retaining nut, it bound up completely. I probably shouldn't have tried to force it, but I thought it would get easier like it did when I removed it. I can't find the nut or screw anywhere, it's #09 on the VB44A carb components diagram. The nut is brass and the screw is steel, so the screw threads are mostly intact, but the nut is toast. Has this happened to anyone else, or know what the thread specs for this part are? Looks like M5x0.5 to me. Gonna talk to my local shop tomorrow to see if they can help. If all else fails I'm just gonna try to replace the nut and hope it all still fits back together.

Do you have a pic ? On my carbs it's just a hole, that is tapped. Not sure what you have..

Yeah it's the same on mine. The screw goes through the threaded hole, and is capped with the retaining nut. My local shop had an extra one lying around and let me have it free of charge! We confirmed the thread size is M5x0.5 though, in case anyone else has this issue.

Should only be a screw with sofy alloy washer, no loose nut that might get ingested.
You can get M5 helicoil kits but you need to be good to use them!

I think he means the bolt/nut where you actually sync the carbs with, not the gauge connection holes.
