Learning Welding
« on: February 23, 2007, 07:11:38 AM »
Guys,

Just for something to do and something that I want to learn to do well… I signed up for a welding class at my local technical institute.  The class runs for 120 hours total.  I will receive instruction and weld two nights a week, four hours each night – it lasts a total of 15 weeks and starts in May.   I will be learning MIG, TIG, and Shielded Arc welding on both heavy and light metals.  We will also weld a variety of metals – e.g. steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.   Not bad for just under $1000 and I will have a certificate at the end.

Anyone else ever take such a course?

I have a friend currently doing the exact same thing as you.  I'm considering it.  I think it would be very worthwhile.

Have fun and good luck!

Damn! I have been looking around my town for the same thing for a couple years now. The only class is a whole semester at a local tech school during the day... Oh well, find people with the type of welders I want to learn and take out some scrape metal is my only recourse...

I had signed up for a Voc class in welding for my junior year in high school....1981 ???  but moved away the summer before. Now I are one ;D

Started out MIG welding aluminum, now Im MiG'ing steel. Had dabbled a bit with TIG welding and could have gotten a job with RCR Motorsports........but only had 2 weeks of dabbling before the interview. Needless to say, they wanted someone that could do it and get it done.....not have to watch over their back and train them  :'(  Said I should try to start out with a Busch team or something. Well DUH!!!!  They have ARCA,Busch and even truck teams at RCR. Heck.......I would have swept the floor with tooth brushes to get in that place.  Oh well........  ::)
