1973 CB350F "The Alabama Basket Case"

Hello,
Newb here, from beautiful Huntsville, Alabama. First motorcycle, but I'm a gear head having restored and fixed up 10+ air cooled VWs, Porsches and Toyota 4x4s.  Never occurred to try fixing up an old motorcycle until I ran out of space in the garage, yard and storage units, (its a sickness).  Anyway, was wanting to create a café racer when I stumbled upon these beautiful CB Fours.  Since I've never driven anything bigger than a 175 trail I thought I should start on the smaller end of a street bike,  hence the CB350F.  So, plans are for a "sympathetic" restoration, I given up on a café  racer since these are such beautiful bikes from the factory.  So here's the bike, an olive green with 18,000 miles. Pretty complete with compression. Will start disassembly and post here. Thanks!

Welcome aboard Scott
The 350four is a great bike to get your feet wet on riding for handling, light weight and some power.
Honda did some mighty things building the SOHC CB fours over the 70s. And they are still fun to ride.

BTW I noticed you put United States in your profile location....not really a good decision in many aspects.

New CB750 K6 Anteres Red, to replace the totaled K5, I sold this K6 at 45k in 1983, I had heavily modified it, many great memories on it and have missed it greatly.....

So, I'm taking the headers off and see the area on the bottom where header attaches to the head/cylinder is disintegrated. Do I need new heads?

Spent a few hours disassembling and taking pics as I remove parts.  Removing carbs was not as easy as I thought.

Removing and mounting carbs on these things is a #$%*. You can use something like a ratchet strap to pull the airbox back a little. That helps.

I found that completely removing the 4 O shaped metal clamps that fasten the air box to the carb enabled me to slide the air box past the carbs. And it will only slide out on the right side due to the nipple on the bottom of the air box.

So here's a little anomaly in the parts availability of CB350f petcocks.  As I found, our petcocks are unique and complete ones are >$60. So I ordered a rebuild kit for $17.  Got the kit and it doesn't have the oval rubber gasket or the 2 philips head screws to attach to tank.  I saw a post where a CB750 petcock will fit, but it has 2 fuel outlets instead of one. So I ordered it and will reverse T back into 1.  Well, looking at the parts it seems you could just order a complete 750 petcock and rebuild your original with all the parts. It even comes with the oval gasket and 2 screws.  Plus it's $12.   ???

I've got a 350/4 and yes those carbs are a booger. Mine need to come off aaaaaaagain....!!!!

My headlight bucket has a crack. I fixed using fiberglass.  Used masking tape over wax paper on outside of shell to support the fiberglass. Turned out good.

The end of the jump start lever seems a little bent. It worked ok when checking compression. Replace, or keep?
