my buddies CB500 rat rod
« on: March 31, 2021, 12:57:29 PM »
Im just sharing.

This is the same rat rod i listed for sale about a month ago, it finally sold and gets picked up tomorrow. I went over my buddies house this morning and ran through the maintenance schedule, stole the starter solenoid from his 750 to fix the electric start, cleaned up some wiring, new battery. Luckily, he sold to one of his military buddies who has ridden it before and knows exactly what he is getting, and looking for a hell on wheels looking bike...so here it is.. Here is a video of her in all her glory. Great bike for a couple years, gave it to Phil right when we got it to make whole and never had any issues.
I forgot I put the KONI shocks on there for him when he bought the bike, I just noticed them today but I dont have a set to swap them with....Ill just let them go.

Are you sure those shocks are KONIs?

My CB550F ones have a damping adjuster at the top and black springs with 5 pre-load positions.

Yup those are early alloy bodied Konis, got 2 sets to fit.
The are longer than original 550(probably 750) so the centre stand dont lift the wheels off the floor

Must be damn long to do that.

What's the measurement between center the top and bottom mounting bolt holes?

It's bang on 13" for my CB550Fs ones with the rear tire 13/8" above the shed floor.

I bought a pair of cheap alloy bodied remote air/gas res. shocks in a consignment from 4into1.com about 14months ago. You can adjust the mounting ears as needed safely about an inch. They do have a longer set of mounting ears if required also as well a different spring/body color combos. Polished or black alloy bodies and black or chrome springs. Springs can be replaced with stronger ones as well.

The bodies can come apart as well to replace worn seal or put heavier weight oil in them.

They are quite nicely made really considering what I paid for them.
