Per post is $25.00 as is most repairs that are this small on carburetors
if you have a carburetor that needs repaired like this and the price sounds good then
just mail, UPS, or FED-X and i can get this turned around in a day. There is no need to re-machine anything

As far as pot metal in concerned, I haven't run in to a carburetor that has been made of this material but that doesn't mean that I wont
at least try an weld it with standard aluminum rod with the laser

go to my web site at www-jmfmicroweld.com if you need to call me or shipping instructions

Big-Jim

I hope I never need it but wow, what a good guy to offer a service like that to us!
At such an inexpensive price to boot!! Thanks, Jim!
Use to do quite a bit of welding myself (mig, tig, stick, etc.) but never seen anything like this.
Excellent resource to keep our old machines on the road.

Will keep this in mind for future needs.

Some very nice work there!!

BTW as far as zink content goes... if the weld area  while welding glows green that means the zink content is high.

Usually it will glow bluish or  red.

There are special allow filler wires available with extra high zink content for repairs on weed eater engine cases.

Can't you braze the stuff? I'm pretty sure pot metal has high melting point so it would make it easier, no?

The metal in these carbs is not that simple.
It is a mixture of different metals sometimes,
Aluminum, Zinc and other metals.

If TIG welding, and the area of the arc gases glows green then it has a high zinc content and welding supply stores sell filler wire just for that purpose. For instance Weed eater engine cases. Mostly aluminum has a blue or red blue glow around the arc.

Anyway  a small test can be performed to choose the correct filler material.

This is a great resource for CB750 restoration customers. Especially if you have
the 1969-70 carbs.

Thanks for letting the CB750 community in on this.

I was looking at a micro soldering station yesterday, for working on multi layer circuit boards in FA18's and other fighter aircraft. Very similar to Jim's rig, with a microscope and computer monitor to help guide the soldering tool. Sadly the whole rig ($50K+ when it was new) is being thrown out in a few months, apparently technology has moved on, and left this wonderful machine in it's wake............ ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Hi Jim,

I referenced this thread over on the CBXWorld site.  A member there broke one of his CBX carbs.  I posted a link to your website, a link to this thread, and a few of the pictures you posted here.  I hope that is okay.

The thread is located here:
http://www.cbxworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=152008#152008

I can remove the information from there if you object.

Wow (I second that)!  I've never seen laser welding and would like to know if this is something that requires filler metal like when TIG welding.  Is this something that is done by hand? (can you tell I have no idea how it's done?).  Please tell us more......  :P
Yes I use a 40 series rod .015 dia and its all done by hand

Very nice looking...very clean looking!...did you V-out the pieces before welding, to get 100% penetration?? Or is that just a proof-of-concept pic, for our benefit??   ;D
No it was ground out for max penitration

That is some fine looking welding for such a small fragile part. $25 sounds pretty reasonable to me for that repair. If the Wife ever lets me spend 80 grand on a tool I'll have to get the info from you. ;D
