Sunflake Orange
« on: April 07, 2021, 04:49:44 PM »
Somewhere on this board I thought I saw the decal dimensions for the sunflake orange paint. The search did not help. I am doing a tank in the orange and my painter is painting the decals on as he did for my other 750's. Anyone have or recall the measurements for the width of the black, gold and white stripes? Thx...

Or if someone could measure their stripes I would be most grateful...

I think you should mention which year your CB750 is. The 1972 K2 and 1974 K4 has both orange tank, but different decals. When I have my tanks repainted, I always order the decals from www.reproductiondecals.com in Canada. They are have the correct measurments, and I have to add - I rarely see perfect decals made by a painter.

Concur wholeheartedly about using decals. I just painted stripes on my 500, nothing like really good, and they are comparitively simple. Decals are way more cost effective. I use AFE Graphics, found their quality excellent, and you can buy a complete decal set with tank, exhaust, master cyl, tire info, helmet holder etc, probably for less than the cost of a painter doing the tank

If you need specific stripe widths or more info I can try to get more pics off another tank that's not mounted.

No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

AFE Graphics is a few miles away from me. I’ve used his stuff for years. Absolutely best quality!

Your painter needs to let the decals degass before painting over. He might have to let the color dry for a time, some paint says recoat soon or you have to wait for it to cure before spraying clear.
One tank I had done got tiny bubbles at the edges. I'm not sure if he used liquid under them to slide into place but I'd guess he did.
I call that painter Mr. 80%, his stuff looks pretty good but always has a problem somewhere.

I thought it strange when I checked out those websites I could not find HONDA decals listed. Then I recalled HM had a fit about someone reproducing the decals so they can't show them.

I had the same issue; thought they were no longer available. They are, you just have to request them.
