Direct mount speedo
« on: April 07, 2021, 09:57:39 AM »
Does anyone know of a direct mount speedo? Ideally it would be one of those small speedometers and it would have either no cable, or a very short rigid metal cable housing. Sort of like an oil pressure gauge. SO the speedometer would be down next to the wheel.

Some would fit a bicycle digital speedo. They were small, wireless and some went up to 300 km/h. Years ago, I experimented with one and by entering extraordinary 'tyre sizes', I could use it as tacho instead of a speedo on the marine diesel in my yacht, by having the magnet (trigger) on the flywheel. It was fun to see it actually worked. The brand was Sigma and I believe it is Dutch. They marketed them both for cyclists and bikers. Let me see if I can find a pic. When you entered the circumference precisely, they were extremely accurate. But digital is probably not what you are looking for.

Thanks fof the suggestion. Actually I wouldn't mind something like that for odometer purposes. But actually the main reason I am seeking the direct mount speedo is because I am building a chopper with an extended front end, but it is still honda. So the speedometer drive acts as one of the wheel spacers. Since it will be there anyways, it would be cool to have a speedo.

CycleX used to sell a set up like what you are looking for...no idea if it is still available.
