Front Fork Oil ?
« on: April 17, 2021, 02:38:46 PM »
1978 CB750K.  I know that some sources specify a substantially different volume of fork oil compared to the Honda factory.  I intend to use the factory spec, but considerably less oil came out of my forks.  I had never changed them since I got the bike.  No evidence of leaking.  I'd say about 5-6 oz came out, total.

But here is my real question:  The fluid that came out looks grey with a hint of green or blue and it smells funny.  It does not smell like red ATF.  It actually smells more like gear oil, only way thinner.  Any idea what that stuff was?

I think I will fill these forks with 0w20 since I have some lying around.  Anybody feel this would be a huge mistake?

Honda factory(correction-shop manual) manual states 10W-30, and I believe 7.2oz. Here's the link:

When you're going through hell, give it some more gas.

It prolly is what the previous owner had "lying around"!  Just use the proper fluid...

I just use ATF, as recommended.

Probably fork oil. There are green brands. Smell? No clue. Some kind of friction modifier or seal additive?
