15t 530 front sprocket?
« on: April 13, 2021, 06:30:33 AM »
In search of a 15 tooth 530 front sprocket for K8.

Everything I find is for 630 chain. Anyone got one of these can tell me where you found it?

And I guess I should ask - what I understand is this was verboten in the 70s but modern chains are better and can handle the decreased radius?

This isn’t about trying to make it really hot off the line - it’s about trying to compensate as much as I can for a 37 tooth rear that I can’t change.

Ca you go smaller rear wheels ?
 Dont look for a K8 sprocket, look for a 69 to 76 15 T   530 sprocket..

I haven’t been searching K8 specifically, just CB750 530, and not finding anything.

Eventually I’ll look at lower profile tires. It’s already 15” wheels. But changing either of those (both, if I change the wheels, I suppose) are significantly more costly changes.

And, of course, doing that will also lower the rear and increase the rake and trail which is already longer than I’d like.

You wil, probably find it easier in a non shouldered type, used on other models.. not as tougn though as the thick shouldered ones. You will need to add washer or shims..

I actually DONT want the shouldered one. Flat, like the 16t and 17t that I have now. I don’t want to introduce any additional offset.

Unfortunately they won’t post to US. But that tells me something I didn’t know... CB500K is the same shaft. Didn’t know they would interchange. I can at least use that knowledge for more searches.

Not sure why one would want a 15t sprocket though.

We can likely find one in N America . Just try some other modelsn search.
I have ripped the middle out of a thin sprocket at tbe drags, took out the shaft, means had to pull the motor to change it.

Because I’m stuck with a 37 rear, and 28” diameter tires. Use the calculator here and you’ll see what that’s doing to my overall gear ratio and speed. It’s laughable.

It all depends on how you are riding the bike. I beat if you chopped down to fourth or change gear at higher revs  things will be different

It's a compromise, to be sure.  It's just an attempt to compensate for the mass of the rear axles wheels and tires, the tall tire profile, and the small rearend sprocket.  I'm also simply not likely to be running this old Servicar rear end at speeds over 70 for any length of time - so "highway cruising" is not the target for this guy.

In any case, once I've got the 15t sprocket, I can play around with them... i'll have a 15, 16, and 17, and can see whether I really feel any difference between them.  Who knows, maybe I'll not really feel a difference, given I'm already lugging around all this mass.

Anyway - I've consumed enough of everyone's time with my discussion of what's pretty far removed from the typical bike on this group - only because the chopper forums are painfully inactive, and I get lots of good responses and ideas from you guys!

I did grab that ebay 15t sprocket, by the way... thank you 754!

Yowza!  Yeah, I think that would be a big mistake.

A 13t would actually put me darn close to the RPM@speeds of the original 18/48 ratio.

I feel bad that I'm considering a 15t, and the dangers of chair wear, already.

Caluser2000 - look at it this way... with the current setup, I'm basically completely missing a gear.  My 3rd gear is almost exactly the same (within 1mph @ any given RPM) as stock 4th gear.  And my 4th is within a few mph of stock 5th.

I can just resign myself to treat it like a 4 speed, I guess.
