So, first, the excuse and back story. The gravel driveway I washed out on is pretty bumpy and a 1/2 mile long. So I think it happened on the way to the main highway, 78 East. In addition, over the years I have learned to screw in jets barely more than finger tight and it was late when putting everything back together. This is the second time with bikes I have had a jet work loose and fall into the bowl.
I found the pilot jet sitting at the bottom of bowl #3. Yes, embarrassing, but relieved to find the problem. But wait, then I removed bowl #2, and found that the jet had broken off where the threads start. I remember it being slightly bent and I bent in back into shape ... I knew that is a big non-no, but with no spare and wanting to go for a rip the next morning, I screwed it back up. I was expecting it to be a total b**** to get the threaded part out, but with a small awl up the center it screwed out very easily.
I already ordered 4 new 55 pilots so I have spares; and 4 new 120 mains. I have wanted to try a size larger to compare anyway. It had to have happened on the gravel driveway before reaching the highway because when started it up it idled perfectly, and crawling along the gravel, it seemed great. But when on the pavement, chug, chug vroom, chug, chug. I will report back with good news hopefully after the new pilots are installed and tested.
Happy Easter.
