Choke Rail Slop
« on: April 25, 2021, 12:36:13 PM »
Hey All,

I'm in the process of re-assembling PD46A carbs on my '77 CB550.  I noticed the two choke rails have a bit of slop when inserted through each carb.  These rails use small nylon inserts where the rail meets each carb pass-through opening.  I'm wondering if these inserts have worn down over time causing the loose fit.  There is enough wiggle that air can likely pass through those passages.  I would attach a pic, but I've  had issues adding attachments to the site.  I'll add when it's back up.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

There may have been felt "washers" sealing the potential unfiltered air intake. Like almost all carb parts these were never available from Honda. I've made my own from a piece of felt and punches. But is this tiny air leak at a spot under very limited vacuum actually a worry?

Thanks Bodi.  Not a worry - I just want to make sure the fitment is as it should be.  I'm not versed enough in these carbs yet to know what impact air coming in at that location would have on performance, if any.  I take it from your response it's insignificant.
