How do you store your helmets?
« on: April 17, 2021, 02:15:23 PM »
I just keep mine on a shelf at present but I'm unhappy with that and looking for a neat way to hang them on the wall.

Does anybody have any recommendations?

Thanks

My wife got an expensive leather purse that came with a soft drawstring (helmet) bag. RCI makes an inexpensive lined helmet bag for race car guys. Jegs sells a Bell helmet bag for $30.
My buddy used to get mad if he lost a round racing and throw his helmet in the gravel. Then later he'd pick it up and wipe it off and put it in a sheepskin bag. L0L.

I believe RevZilla at one point carried a helmet holder along with hook beneath for jacket, wall mounted and made of metal and wood. Was slick design but they were very proud of it...

I have an unrealized idea to make such a helmet and jacket holder. But I don’t store anything like a helmet or a coat hanger above my tank/paint work. I found that helmet manufacturers don’t want anything touching the helmet insides except your noggin, and even then you’re advised to replace it at some interval, 5years? There is a compressible layer/liner in there to reduce transmitted impacts. So my past practice of hanging my helmet on my mirror and fastening the strap so it doesn’t fall is not acceptable.
A shelf might be the best, and you have to keep the helmet secure. So it doesn’t get knocked off or dropped.

Most over-the-door coat racks have top hooks that will hold a helmet, place your helmet over 2 hooks for stability.

These days I keep mine in its drawstring bag on a shelf.

Thanks, Mark. That's exactly the kind of idea I was hoping for.

And I appreciate your offer; very generous! But I have a funky old set of handlebars that'll be perfect for this.

Cheers!

Might also have to put a helmet ,on a mannequin head, on a pike, in the front yard, as a warning to the Harley tribe and any other invaders, "Here be dragons!"

Mine is currently resting on a wire rack between the garage doors, the opposite side holds all of the funnels. The soft drawstring bag I swiped from my wife's new purse is now holding a new faceshield used for grinding.
My racecar driver daughter keeps hers $$ Impact sfi helmet in an RCI helmet bag that sits on a wire shelf in the enclosed trailer. I bring it inside in winter, never had mice in the trailer but there's always that chance.

I keep my race helmet like that too, in another bag with all the other apparel. Usually toss a “drier sheet” in it for the winter....
