Puller?
« on: April 03, 2022, 10:12:45 PM »
Any one knows where I can get this? I guess it is a puller tool but googling puller gives me the traditional 3 hooked ones.

I need this for a specific diameter as well, but which knowing what the heck it is called, it is hard to search. If anyone has links to buy it, please share.

 What does it pull?

Where do I buy them? Are they a set? Here is a picture of the bolt diameter(no idea about thread pitch)

Should i be looking a 16mm or a 17mm version?

Whats it on? Looks a bit like and old Yam dynostart in which case i think its just a bolt that screws in, bottoms on the end of the crank taper and pulls the rotor, like the 750

Be carefull with the magneto puller the bolt might be small enough to go into the end of the shaft instead of pushing on it

One tip is if you have a collection of rear axles from other bikes, try them before spending on a puller like the one pictured. As long as the threads are correct it'll do the job.

My son bought me one for the Honda Z50 engine I was rebuilding (for him). It’s double ended for two sizes. Maybe checkout a Z50 website and see what sizes they are? From memorial, I think the outer portion was a reversed thread? Is yours?

That hack did occur to me but couldn't find an M16x1. 5. Will try the H/w store next

Great point about the reverse threading, will have to check tomorrow

On some of its tiddlers Yamaha used a dynamo type generator that could be fed power to make it a starter motor hence dynostart

If it is a standard bolt style without reverse threads etc I just buy the correct large bolt from Bolts Plus here for about $5 vs $20 for a so called rotor puller bolt that is the same thing.

Most are 16mm X 1.5 TP with some larger maybe M18X 1.5 TP as I have a few sizes in the tool box. Thread it into the rotor snug against the crankshaft and a decent tap and maybe another half turn on the bolt and off pops the rotor.
Common sense.....isn't so common!
