I got the shocks apart today, I used my press to remove the springs. Next, I wire brushed the tops and rolled the shock while tapping the threaded area with a soft hammer on my vise's anvil pad and a doubled rag.
I soaked the tops with penetrating oil and heated the top a little with a propane torch. I tapped a drift pin into one hole and turned the insert with a crescent wrench over the shaft and drift pin. Surprisingly, both of them screwed right off. When they heated I could see the penetrating oil bubble out so I allowed it to cool and suck some oil back in.
I had some trouble getting the melted (factory defect) seals to slide out of the interior cylinder but I got them both out. It's obvious what went wrong in here, the rubber has turned to mush and sticks to the cylinder walls. I used some air tool oil in a hydraulic cylinder once with the same sticky result.
Unfortunately, one shaft has a couple pits in it, I sanded them with 1,000 grit sandpaper. I used a thin wall socket and removed the end of the shaft bolt then turned the seal holder off and got them apart.
The mailman didn't bring my seals, the ebay seller isn't very prompt. I purchased the kit feb 16, they shipped on the 24th. Michigan to here would be next day ups but post office will take a week.
