Headlight ? - Standard Part ?
« on: February 20, 2007, 02:18:42 AM »
Hi Guys, I know you are SOHC Focussed, and as a DOHC owner I am a leper .....  :-X

BUT I've inherited a 1979/80 CB750 FZ ....

Its mostly there and I've managed to get it looking about 1000% percent better than when i got it ... (it had been left inthe rain under a cover for about 10 years.... >:()

The headlight is pretty ordinary looking - the silver backing has peeled, its gone cloudy .. nasty manky looking thing...

I'm a cheap b*****d and sort-of refuse to pay the Honda "tax" for a newie ....

Are these a standard 7" sealed beam ? - i do see two screw-tabs at 180' apart, and the bottom mounting screw.... but this doesnt appear to be the same as anything at my local (car) spares place.....

Any help ?

(more lame-ass questions coming your way soon ....)

J

As far as I know, a standard issue 7" headlight should work. The only difference I'm aware of is that the "motorcycle" headlights (they even have motorcycle embossed along the bottom) have a heftier filament as bikes typically have more bouncing and vibration than a car. Many aftermarket shops have them, or you could upgrade to an H4 halogen headlight for around $20. Then you'd save money and be able to see farther....

in my experience, an automotive headlight just doesn't last. A standard 7" bike headlight isn't too expensive, just don't get the high priced "Honda" stamp! ;)
