Z1 or KZ1000 Float Bowls
« on: April 29, 2021, 02:53:19 PM »
Digging around in the spares that came with my chopper. These shinny float bowls were in a bag. Anyone confirm what they are? Need them?

Look like Mikuni. Google 29mm smooth bore and see if they are the same.

They fit Mikuni VM series carbs.  I believe one year of the Z1 or maybe even just a certain serial number range came from the factory with those float bowls.  For certain, they were also what was supplied when you bought a set of aftermarket racing carbs, the legendary Mikuni vm29 Smooth Bores.  They have the convenient benefit of enabling the mainjet to be accessed and swapped without removing the carbs from the bike or the floatbowls from the carbs.  Inconveniently, they also lack overflow drains, so if you have float valve problems, gas is either soaking your air filter or going into the oil pan.

Yes early Zed or maybe the whole  first year had that type of  bowl , with  the jet access..
It makes sense to have that. DELLORTO uses it too.

oh yeah, I see now.  Maybe that is a difference between the Z1 stockers and the Smoothebores

Thing that really sucks is Z1 Enterprises website used to have a great ID guide for Mikuni VM's, that covered all this information.  `But it is gone now that Dime City bought out the site.

Need them?

Hey John....interested in the float bowls depending on cost with shipping to TX. [I have a Z1]

Chrome plated, right?

BTW - as Frank and Sean mentioned, jet changes are possible with these w/o removing the entire bowl, a very nice feature.

My apologies. I just had a close look at these and they have very small cracks in them. One I tested with water leaks like a sieve. Nice shiny scrap.
