Broken oil pump mounting thread (pictures)

Is there anyway to repair this without getting a new case? I'm guessing mounting the oil pump with two of the three bolts would not be a good idea and was planning on using JB Weld to seal it all up than carefully tap the threads clean but now im second guessing myself. Any idea's what the best course of action to properly fix this? pictures below..any help greatly appreciated before I go any further!

How did you do this ?

Bought the case used and noticed one bolt wouldn't fully tighten (thought id pulled the threads) so i was going to install a heli-coil today but I am guessing it was cracked all along.

Depending on the size of the missing piece and what that broken threaded area holds.

I personally would used the JB weld with at minimum a Heli-coil inserted into the JB material first, so that it can cure around the Heli-coil. You now have a metal bolt insert to hold your bolt vs tapping the JB Weld repair for threads. The Heli coil should be securely locked into the repair with the JB Weld built up around the Heli Coil.

That said I would keep the bolt torque on the repair under 8 ft lbs. as a max, which is hand tight with a little tension.

Its one of the three bolts that hold the oil pump in place..Ive already got it in place with a the JB Weld and its setting nicely and yes I will defiantly drill and tap a heli-coil in. do you think it might be a better idea to go one size down on the heli-coil to there is less stress on the thread?

I should use other cases if these are not the bikes original that must be used.
Fresh good cases do not cost that much.
What else is bad or cracked when that thread is totally vandalized?

This indicate that a not mechanically minded person has worked alone.

I think im going to find a shop in my area to weld it up for me, I do have another case laying around but id rather not tear this engine down if I don't have to! I think the guy sand blasted this case and I mean that literally (found sand in the case when I got it) which now im seeing may have made things brittle?

Sandblasting wouldnt do that, probably a too long bolt overtightened
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
