WHAT IS THIS?

I am rebuilding a 1977 CB750K (I think...)

The frame has a battery tray and welded frame reinforcement which I cannot fine a diagram for anywhere.  The welding appears professional and exactly like all other welds on the frame. 

Is this some obscure OEM variant made by Honda or is it something somebody customized?

I would agree unless the 75A frame was different, never seen one so dont know

I wonder if lowering the battery that much had any effect on center of gravity or seat-of-pants handling improvement?

Shame about that left shock stud eh?

More CCA like a 750A battery?

Better for cranking over that high compression hot rod.

Not an A frame. Cross tubes are curved on an A.

Drill and tap the shock stud. Best done in a mill or drill....or make a guide bushing that fits over fat part.. that will get hole  straight. It take the seldom seen part of 77 only bikes....front left motor mount... hope you got that..

Thank you.  Can you explain this again?  Slowly....

Wow, I hadn't even noticed the stud was sheared off.  I have not gotten to the frame restoration yet. 

Is the shock stud a part of the frame or a replaceable threaded bolt?  I don't see it as a separate piece on any exploded diagrams.

I’m sure “754” will respond regarding the way to repair the missing shock stud..... the acorn nut that usually screws on is just for keeping the shock from sliding off the larger shaft portion. If you drill and tap it, you can screw in a new stud.

His second comment is regarding the left front engine mount. If you look closely at any other SOHC Honda cb750K, you will notice a lug welded to the frame there. ONLY on the 1977 cb750K are there two sleeves for bolts. A separate engine mount (two pieces) bolts on there. The engine attaches to it. I’ve never seen an explanation, but it’s unique to the 1977 K7. Did you get the mount??

Oddly enough, I have an extra. I can post photos if you want?
