New switches and grips.
« on: May 07, 2021, 08:43:36 AM »
I probably could have repainted the old switch housings as they were pretty faded but decided to give the Ebay ones a try. While the left switch was listed as fitting a 78K by the Honda part number, it was set up for inside the HB routing. I changed it to external by cutting a slot and pulling the pin.

The first set of grips that I installed on the bike were the old style cushion. After about a year they started to fall a part. Got some new ones from Biltwell.  Much nicer solid rubber.  They go on with WD40 and won't come off. No glue. The only issue was  that they are about 0.40 (10mm) shorter than stock Honda.  I probably could have shortened only the throttle spindle but went a head and cut off the same on the bars as the stock aftermarket clutch cable is short and gets tight when turning the bars to the left.

I like the grips.

Just got done with a 160 mile ride.

One issue to note, is that the left switch does not have nice detents to position the turn signal switch.  One thing nice about the stock Honda switch was that you could push the button part way and as soon as you released it, it would spring back to center and the signal would go off.  The new switch doesn't do that plus the center detent is so light that when switching it off, you may flip on the other turn signal direction.  :(
