Turn signal flasher

I'm finding the wiring diagram for my 1972 CB 750 K2 a little confusing. There are two wires, a grey wire and a black wire that attach to the flasher relay. Can someone please tell me which wire attaches to the upper terminal marked "L" in the photo and which attaches to the terminal on the left in the photo marked "X". I think I fried one of these in an earlier attempt and can't remember which wire I attached to which

I don’t think it matters. The flasher is a bimetallic switch that heats up when current goes through it. Doesn’t actually matter if it’s on the power side or the ground side of a circuit, nor what direction current flows. At least, for an OEM mechanical flasher. If it’s an electronic flasher (like for LED) then it might have a polarity.

FWIW, this wiring diagram might be easier to follow than the factory service manual. Laid out a little different, and in color. Should actually be the same wiring as shown in the factory service manual, I just find this layout easier to understand.

Lets guess L for lights(grey)
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

For an original type electromechanical flasher it does not matter. For a replacement "electronic" 2 terminal flasher it likely does. I think L would be for "load" - the switch and lights. X makes no sense at all... but reverse shouldn't destroy an electronic flasher, it probably won't work wired that way though.
The European terminal number system is foreign to use, but it makes a lot of sense. Relay and flasher terminal numbers indicate exactly how to connect them once you know the code.

Thank you gentlemen for the advice and information. The fried flashers were communist chinese crap. I installed a USA made unit (purportedly for a 1964 Corvette) and it functions perfectly. Evidently the 142 flasher was very common in US manufactured cars in the era before everything went computer and LED. I found mine at a local NAPA store

FWIW, I just went back through all the reference pics I took while I was disassembling my K8, and I see that the grey wire was connected to the pin on the flasher that would be the one next to the "L" mark on the pic you showed.

But I just tested the round Wagner flasher I have on the trike, and it works just fine either way.
