MAN CUP RACE THIS WEEKEND, VALDOSTA
« on: April 27, 2021, 07:34:31 PM »
Anyone coming to the Man Cup race at SGMP in Valdosta this weekend?? We plan to be there. My intentions are to run street ET and top gas. Not certain about entering super eliminator this time.   The wife plans to enter Pro ET.

Roll call fellas. Lets hear from you.

I was hoping to at least ride up and spectate, but there is WAYYYY too much piled up on my plate right now. I couldn't even make the season opener here in Orlando. Looking forward to seeing everyone again, even if it takes until November!

Good luck to all, enjoy!

Sorry you can't make it Wilbur. I understand  how quickly things  happen.  I was on my way to the XDA this past weekend and had to abort the trip due to an unexpected ABS warning light. Not wise to be driving a long bed, crew cab dually, pulling a 26 foot trailer loaded with race equipment and faulty brakes. Argh!!

We'll see you when we see you my friend.  I  may come your way soon to drop a dragbike chassis off at D&G Chassis. I'll let you know.

Yep, even after thorough preparation things still go wrong. Just round tripped to Ohio and sprung a pinhole leak in the Suburban radiator on the way up. Made it there and back and only had to top off the reservoir once (almost 2500 miles). I'll be putting in a new radiator this weekend.

Very light turnout.

Bill was able to get back on the horse after 2+ years and got in 3 practice runs in-between class runs. Shake off the rust. Pretty ugly but very happy again haha. Rough. But he's in the saddle again. Plus he was on Purple Rain and it was even longer on that bike. He had to sort out an issue with the air shifters too. Stay tuned for Sunday morning 9am.

Good to hear Bill is back in competition. I haven't raced in 18 months so I imagine I'll have some cobwebs to clear as well.

Good luck!

Saturday was the day for Bill to get back on and shake the jitters and rust. That he did. First run this morning was a red light. He lowered his dial to 12.2 after yesterday practice feeling more confidence. Still a bit apprehensive and rusty but back to the old Bill we all know and love. The second run was his best hole shot but still off a little. 60' was better too. Looked good. He had a nice jump on his opponent. Nearing the quarter he backed out but looked back and got back into it a little to be sure. He was too sure. Crossed at only 99 mph but broke out with a 12.16. He said something told him to leave the dial in as the 11.9 that was still previously on the bike. Purple Rain. Even with that and without chopping he had a good chance to still break out on a 11.90. He was up until after 3am tinkering and was ready!!! All in all a very good day.

Good weekend with good people. Doesn't get any better except for the smaller crowd and the smaller SOHC4 crowd.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to bring my bikes to race this time. Had an electrical problem with the truck the day before we needed to leave. We had a college graduation dinner on Friday afternoon in Florida and then came back to Valdosta for the race. Bill was having problems with the air shifter on purple rain so I gave him a hand first off Saturday morning to sort things out. We got it working but not in time for Bill to enter the Saturday event. He decided to buy a test and tune card instead so he could knock the rust off with any pressure during competition.  As Jerry posted, the bike ran well and Bill started to get more comfortable each pass. It was good seeing him in the saddle again.  I missed his first pass on Sunday but he seemed excited to be in race mode once Again. It's been a while since he rode purple rain but he did well. I think he wants to take the billet block bike to the dyno to be certain it's tuned correctly before racing it again and I concur with his decision.  The last time out with that bike it seemed to lean and the clutch was beginning to slip.  He's going to sort everything out and I expect he'll be racing it at the Cup event at Rockingham Dragway in a  few months.
