Can't get SOHC4 site on my work PC
« on: February 28, 2007, 06:32:39 PM »
Haven't been around for a while. Been real busy dealing with life's trials and tribulation. But my main problem is I can't get SOHC4 web site on my work PC any more. At times it was difficult to get on the site in the past, let's say 3-4 months ago but now I can't get the site for nothin. As far as I know there's nothing that would block it, I have virtually free rain and can visit most any site including some that could make a sailor blush LOL. Dose anyone have any ideas? Well at least I can still get my SOHC4 fix on my own time.

Open up a command window

Start >Run

Type cmd into the field (assuming this is winxp, vista or 2000)

Press enter

In the new command window, type

ipconfig/flushdns

See if that help
No.

Also try scanning for adware/spyware. I got a spyware "bug" a few weeks ago that prevented me from getting to the SOHC site as well. It took the I.T. boys at work to sort it out for me.

mlinder! I tried the start/run/cmd/enter/ipconfig/flushdns process and had no luck, thanks for the attempt. Yes It's Windows 2000. eldar! I'm not real proficient on a PC so I can only guess what to tell you. I've got an older dell Pentium II and use a google brouser I guess. Or clue me in on what you're asking? I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. And to kettlesd I have Ad-Aware Personal and McAfee Security through ComCast. Still lookin for ideas.

Tarkus, it's got nothing to do with the sharpness of the tool ;)  One has experience with something or not. ;D  Here's some questions that may help.

1) Knowing which browser will help.  The browser is the program that you use to browse web pages.  Look at the very top corner of the program (or "window") that you use to view web pages.  I don't mean the page itself (the place where you would see the SOHC/4 page or Google, etc.).  In the very left corner (above the "File" menu) you should either see

- What appears to be a tiny blue "e" on a tiny white rectangle
  OR
- What appears to be a tiny orange and blue circle

Does this make sense?  If not, I'll re-explain.

2) Also, when you say that the SOHC/4 web site to work, what actually happens?  For example, do you get a blank white page?  Or maybe do you get a message where the SOHC/4 web site would display?  If so, what does the message say?  It might say something like, "404 Not Found."

3) Is it just the forums that are causing a problem?  Do these links work:

http://www.sohc4.us/
http://www.sohc4.us/gallery/main.php

4) How do you normally go to the SOHC/4 web site?  Do you use a bookmark, or perhaps type the address in?  Try this link that will show a Google search for pages on the SOHC/4 web site.  If you click on one of the results, what happens?

http://www.google.com/search?hs=dwa&q=site%3Asohc4.us+forums&btnG=Search

Try a few of the links that show in Google.

Wow! This is frustrating. Some how with some luck I was able to get in through one of the links I found through a goggle web search that up till now didn't work. After I did the web search and came up with the results, I clicked on one of the associated links, but this time I clicked on (cached) next to (Similar pages) and got through to SOhC/4 Members Pages http://members.sohc4.net/ and some how stumbled across sohc4 members sign in page, Yippie! and loged on. ;D Don't know if it's going to stay fixed, but I still have issues. Most pages in the forums don't load or don't load the first time. It goes to a message "This page cannot be displayed". If I back page and retry it may work after several attempts, or, and this sounds weird but, if I go to the bottom of a page I was lucky enough to reach and click on the "go to top" link or window" and it works. Now to answer your questions burmashave, Yes there is blue lower case e in the upper left hand corner just off center left of the white rectangle with the upper right corner folded in like a turned down page corner.  As to links I've tried the ones you list and any others I could find through my goggle search but only the one I mention earlier works. I also have it bookmarker with no luck from there  Including http://sohc4.us/ and http://sohc4.us/forums/index.php . The bookmark I have for http://sohc4gallery.com/soc4.php3 works though.. This has all got me so perturbed.

I have had similar problems from my Home PC. I have been working with "glennstauffer@gmail.com" from the Forum. Up until now I was the only one that he was aware of having the problem.

You may want to contact him.

I am Running a Linux Box for My internet, and none of the browsers could reach the site. The it appears that the connection gets dropped at thier router.

from a command line (DOS Prompt in the Windows World) run the following command

"tracert sohc4.us"

Email the Results to Glenn

its not my work comp and i'm connecting just fine but, my firefox browser has recently started (only w/ sohc4 forums) to not scroll w/ the arrow keys.  sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  yes, i click the cursor in the window somewhere to jumpstart it if i need too but, i'm baffled by this.  i've even reloaded firefox and adaware'd my system.

any ideas?

like right now... it works

i bet you when i restart firefox though... it won't

you want us to go to a sketchy looking internet address that is a site for hijackthis?

no matter how hard you try you'll be hard pressed to get me to go there. although, i think you were not talking to me anyway.   :)

Sketchy? Hardly.

The guy at merijn.org has been making free, useful utilities for techs and power users for years.
He made the coolwebsearch remover, which was good enough that trendmicro actually bought it from him.

I'm a technician. I've been using hijackthis for years to see what's running that shouldn't be.
hijackthis shows you how you've been hijacked, it doesn't do any hijacking.
