eBay ditching PayPal...
« on: May 29, 2021, 08:38:16 AM »
How do you guys feel about eBay having direct access to your bank account?

I’m not sure where this should have been posted, please move as necessary.

EBay has owned PayPal for a long time, I'm sure their code writers are keeping much of what was and incorporating it into something new.

I'm sure it's also solely in an effort to collect and record Internet Sales Tax to cover their asses.

I'll most likely use a dedicated account for EBay stuff moving forward if I need to list more than a few items yearly.

I'm a bit annoyed by it as I was when they introduced paypal. I got used to paypal and liked the  instant payment and could divert the funds into stuff I needed for bikes etc. Plus I could swap paypal funds for cash from my daughter.

Now my wife knows every cent I spend on beer and waiting for ebay to put it in my acc can take awhile.
If somebody buys something from me on a friday, I might not have the money till Tuesday.  I'm not worried about security as ebay seem safe. Touch wood.

I did a quick add up and it looked to me they are taking out nearly 17% which is painful too. Although my maths could be a bit faulty.

It just dawned on me that they could be going this route to get their money faster and to get us our money faster....in an effort to simply get us to spend it faster.

It is doubled edged as any buyer that falsely claims to not receive a product and eBay refunds them, then it pulls out of your account immediately. Lots of fraud going on by some buyers.

Always been like that. Once in a blue moon when my path crosses these buyers. I refund them  and block them. Out of say 3000 transactions. I've been ripped of maybe 3 or 4 times. Once a buyer got the #$%*s with me because he purchased 4.5 kg of coins from me. Reckoned I only sent 3kg. Turns out his scales only went to 3kg. I sent 4.7kg. Never heard from him again. Fact of life, need to be tolerant of imbeciles, ha.

I bought a facebook ad for our car show, the purchase seemed incomplete and facebook went into my paypal and directly removed three payments of the agreed amount with no approval, click, log in, or explaination of how it would be billed.
I'm very uncomfortable with them directly removing my funds. I had a $48 balance in paypal and got a payment notice of $2 from my checking when they took the first $50.

I think its safe to say that my ebay acct will go on the back burner until I see if this is a wise move or not. I've already got a dedicated charge card just for paypal, I really don't see why I would want to make a separate checking acct. just for ebay. Life's already complicated and intrusive enough, lets not make anymore so.

I may need to get a second bed so I have more space for more hoarding and less eBay selling.

That's what I'm thinking after I get house and shop moved (destination unknown but can't stay here) I should sell off the crap and junk for pennies and enjoy the space it frees up. Buy only good quality or rare parts where I can find them and pick them up locally.
