Topic: Does a 550 cam cover fit on a 500?

Hi all,

I realised tonight that one of my tappet covers was being hit by the tappet arm. After some googling I believe the it's the same issue a lot of people have encountered on here with the rocker shafts being worn.

The fix is to get a later model cover like a 77 but does the 550 cover fit onto a 72 500?

Yes all 500/550 cam covers fit all heads

of you find an earlier type cover that's in good shape, you can also prevent the rocker shafts from rotating and wearing out their bores by putting an o-ring between the end of each shaft and the end cap stud. same size ring as on the studs themselves will fit.
