I take it back, looks like I will need a right side bracket. What I should’ve realized but didn’t was that this topic has been discussed over and over and over on this forum. Plenty of chatter on the subject. I will be making this happen.

EDIT: Who knew? That rascal is reversible. I don't need a bracket after all! I do still need a caliper rebuild kit, some brake line and, apparently, some machining skills to allow the speedo drive to engage. I will cross that bridge when I get to it.

Back in 1977 when I was a parts manager at 20..... I had a dual drilled front disc put on by a friend out back when we built my K6 motor to an 811 so yes it can be done. We swapped the legs around so the calipers were on the backfor better braking power. It served my well until 1983 when I sold the bike........ugh...... Sure have wished many times I hadn't sold it.

Speedo drive depends o wether you have an early front hub with 2 flats on or the fully round one

Thanks BJ.  Guess I'll find out when the time comes around - the wheel comes off.   As noted, it's a bit down the road.  (Not too far).

C'mon, it's only a pond.!

Seriously, I have a shop full possibilities and diversions. This machine is the current focus, but I've been known to change direction with the wind. I'm just saying that an instant answer on a particular issue for a single motorcycle is not real high on my priority list.  However, I would like to see this thing running and riding for the upcoming season.. which begins around the end of September.

I will not run an air-cooled machine in the height of the Phoenix summer. The CBX runs hot on a cool day, much less this time of year!  While I'm sure the 4-cylinder CB would fare better, I won't do it.

Looks good Scotty and the best, but not only, way if youhave the round hub. If you have the two flats its easier

Not that it’s a really big deal as the bike is pretty much bare at the moment, but I just wasted a day.  The PO before the PO and I discussed this thing.  (PO did nothing to it in 10 years, so I contacted the guy before him who had done all the parts acquisition and initial work.)

He said the carburetors were ready to go, but me being the skeptic I had to see it to believe it. He wasn’t kidding. They were scrupulously clean. But I confirmed all passages, slow jets, float levels, needle valve and organics.  No issues here at all.

So they are back on and ready to synchronize. I’m running out of reasons to fire this thing up and see how it runs. I do have a Dyna ignition set up in the “boxes o’ stuff” I got with the bike, but I’m gonna fire it off with points and may end up leaving them in there. Because points don’t just die on the road past Shiprock, New Mexico for no reason.  (Don’t ask).

Pulled the tail light and plate bracket out of the box of stuff today. I’m not really feeling the vibe on this thing, but the holes are already drilled in the fiberglass for it so I may be stuck with it. Just not crazy about it…

Thanks Steve.  Yeah, I answered the guy’s ad because he had lots of parts available. I was looking for parts for the 78 super sport. Ended up bringing this thing home (along with the parts). Couldn’t pass it up.

The Planet Blue is kinda special.  More so when it’s original!

Back in the day I went screaming across the desert several times on Interstate 10 coast to coast on the K0. No problems.

We are experiencing a rare break in the summer heat in Phoenix. The monsoon always cools things down a bit, but we have a weather system moving through this weekend that is pretty unusual. Highs in the low 80s, cloudy. (i’ll take it.)  So I ventured into the shop for a little while this afternoon.

Messed around with a preliminary installation of the Tarozzi fork brace.  Folks have said that there are really no aftermarket braces available for the K1-6.  F yes, but apparently only the unattractive Tkat is available for the K.

So, I did see a couple of references to the Terrozzi brace, specifically where their 22–0037 version for the 750F had been fitted successfully. So I picked one up and it does fit, but just barely. I wouldn’t really recommend it, but I’m gonna run it for a while until I restore this thing back to factory trim.

The photo shows its final positioning, and it barely fits. This is with the brace positioned as far up on the lowers as it’s practical to do.

That is a dream, I can only hope for that here!  [97 today]

Why dont you recommend the brace?  Too close to the tire??

Yes, and quite honestly it’s already positioned further up on the lower collars than it’s really designed to be. Only about half of the clamp is actually contacting the forks. Enough, but not all of it.

Well, this thread is certainly went into suspended animation.  I actually do have a couple of pretty decent excuses:1) Phoenix summertime hit and 2) I ran into some significant health issues that are ongoing.

But this thing is calling my name. It really is very close to being streetable. All it needs is a chain, the carburetors reinstalled and gasoline. Fresh oil in the crankcase is already there. I dropped the sump and found it to be remarkably clean.

The carburetors actually caused me some unexpected grief. Two of four float needles wouldn’t seat for whatever reason.  After dinking with them off and on for several weeks, I “splurged” on new K&L brass needles and seats.  I will set up an IV tomorrow to confirm successful repair, and if so, shove them back on.

This really is a pristine survivor. I’m proud to have it on the table.

So, I’m back on it…

Here it is the day I brought it home. Just got it loaded on the trailer at the sellers storage facility. He was moving to Hawaii. I think he actually might’ve cried a little bit as I drove away. I know how he felt. I did the same thing when my CBX rolled away. Anyway, it looks pretty well sorted, but needed some love.

It got and is getting it.
