1973 cb350f carburetor rebuild stuck needle valves
« on: June 06, 2021, 11:55:46 AM »
Hi, I'm rebuilding my carbs and can't get the needle valves unstuck from the seats. These were really corroded and have been ultrasonic cleaned in berry-man carb cleaner. Is there a trick to getting them to slide out? The rebuild videos show these just slide out after disconnecting the pivot linkage.  Thanks,

I used several rounds of PB Blaster and a heat gun. Took 3 or 4 cycles but they came out nice and easy. Just be patient.

Good luck!

Thanks, did you heat up the carb body where the main jet sits?

Do you mean you are trying to get the slides out of the bodies?

Yes, I assume the needle valve is stuck inside the seat which prevents the cylindrical slides from coming out.

I heated the body. The vertical cylinder surrounding the slide you are trying to remove, where “Keihin” is embossed.

It is extremel unlikely the needle is stuck in the jet due to its shape, more likely the slide is stuck in the bodydure to carb cleaner

It was stuck before I used the carb cleaner.

I got one out by pulling and pushing the pivot and you're right, the cylinder was stuck in the "bore". But it was old the gas that had varnished it.  Thanks.

I've found acetone useful in freeing these up.
