New boy

Hello everyone

My real name is Maurice but my sister has always called me Mozrit from being kids (a long time ago) hence my user name for this site. Glad to be amongst fellow fans. I have a 1978 400/4 in parakeet yellow which is a delightful machine. Unfortunately the oil seals have gone and they need replacing. I will do the caliper at the same time.

When I did my old Ariel in lockdown I hoisted the front end with ratchet and strap hanging from garage beams and then chocked the frame to make it stable. Worked a treat. Looking at the Honda I’m not sure where to support the weight of the bike once the front end is off. Could the crankcase take this weight if suitably protected with a soft material and a generous surface area of wood? Obviously I don’t want to put any strain on the mountings or punch a hole in the TRGEMUcrankcase. Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Hoping to get this done soon so I make the most of this sunshine.

Regards

Mozrit

Welcome from Southern Arizona.
You can support the motor with some blocks of pine or a block of pine beneath your jack and the motor. Avoid the oil filter housing as you can break the cooling fins off the bottom...

Welcome aboard Mozrit
From your description, we have to ASSUME(never a good thing.....) The seals are the fork seals????? (You didn't specify.....)seals and caliper.....
If so, if you still have the centerstand on the bike, get the bike on the centerstand then pull up the front end with your strap or an automotive jack and yes blocks to support it safely under the case or frame. Test the steadiness...... Your safety and others is your responsibility. The case will handle the weight if blocked properly.

Thanks for the helpful replies. Yes, I stupidly forgot to specify fork seals so apologies for that. I was hoping that I would be able to support the crankcase and it’s good to know that can be done safely.
Thanks for that.

Amazed by the extent of interest, knowledge, commitment on this site.

Thanks again
