Wth is this? Blue sealant on carbs?
« on: June 12, 2021, 03:42:28 PM »
I got a set of PD42 carbs with the K8 engine I just put in the trike. I can’t run them yet because they need a rebuild. The accelerator pump leaks bad. The boots are completely wrong (I think). I’ll run the mikunis for now.

But I started looking closer at them and I see this goofy stuff.

Who would do this?

Someone who doesn't like the smell of leaking petrol? Mind you, I do not agree with the choice of the medium, but at least he tried to fix it, in a somewhat awkward way.... :D

A silicon sealant. That, and WD40, are too often misused.

My K8's PO loved the blue sealant too.
Who the F does that? Is what I asked him as if someone else had done it, he just laughed and shook his empty little head.

Did your oil jets survive it?
I got an F2 engine for rebuild with torn up cam bearings on one side. The oil jet was blue! And dry.

Yup, it had never been run, everything was only finger tight and no oil had ever been added. I haven't gotten it back together yet, but I'll pop the oil jets and clean the passages. It'll be a while, gotta find a place and move house and shop.
