Let me show you why I hate selling a bike on the web.....
« on: June 17, 2021, 12:25:47 PM »
I have the K5 I just completed up for sale on several sites.  I am attaching a copy of an inquiry, but I will not post my response.  I thought at first it had to be an acquaintance just screwing around, but no one has come clean.  Can someone really be that big of an AH????????????

 Hi,
I've been looking for one of these that hasn't been chopped up to make a "cafe racer" for years upon years. The vintage CB750 is a wonderful machine. Your bike is very nice but I have questions. 1) the cruiser style bars are wayyy too weird and over the top. I prefer the stock setup by far if I'm going to pay the full asking price. Did you say that those ugly weird sky high ape hanger bars that have no business being on the world's first superbike are what's currently on it? Because I hate them. The bike is disgraced by those bars. 2) Are those weird flat foot rearsets on the bike as well? Because I passionately hate those as well. 3) Does the bike come with those super cool but likely never-to-be-used Shoei panniers? Because I absolutely do NOT hate those. 4) What happened to the stock y pipes? A CB750 is not whole unless it has those pipes. That was the way the bike came from the factory and that is the way the bike should be now. If we wind up making a deal (providing I have not insulted you with this email) I would need to change those and I haven't checked to see if those pipes are still available as NOS or even aftermarket. So that is another major concern. 5) you sure that other CB750 with the flat blue paint and the low bars isn't for sale as well? That is a beauty.

For a guy like me who is familiar with these motorcycles your bike is not ready for prime time. I would need to perform a certain amount of sorting before it would be ready. And as far as collector value goes, if it's not original it's not valuable. I'm just looking for answers, not looking to make you angry. I'm a straight talker so please forgive this email if it comes off as abrasive. At the end of the day it is your bike and your rules. As I said I have searched for a good one and have had my share of frustrating exchanges with other owners. If you're offended by this email, you do not need to respond unless you just want to give me a hard time right back! Be well

With that attitude, I can see why he’s having a difficult time buying one.
How would he not think he is offending you ???
He’d have a better chance finding a time machine to go back and buy a new one from the dealer.

Easier to avoid strange people. Narcisists are not nice to handle.
Either buy the bike as is or not and talk about his own knowledge or feelings with somebody else.

Your bike is worth a better next owner.

Just ignore it.

Any response is just going to invite more of his bewildering "enlightenment" and you can tell he already knows everything and is very willing to share. ::)

No worries.  I would cover the bike with bat guano and set it on fire before I sold it to the condescending, self righteous, arrogant, know it all, Honda loving AH that he claims to be.  Those are just his redeeming qualities in my book.....

Well I believe the bike is sold.  I have pulled the ads on a gentlemen's agreement for the sale at full asking price.  The purchaser is the next State over and has made the request that I transfer the old original South Carolina title to my name with a new Virginia title.  (Something I should have done before listing the bike anyway.)  It still takes making an appointment at a DMV office here and any title over 25 years old has to sent back to Titling Division for verification before a new title will be issued so it will be a 3 or 4 week process.  I don't have a problem with the request since the titling regulations are somewhat more stringent in the buyers home State.  I did not take a deposit, sometimes you know when to take a man at his word.  If worst comes to worst and deal falls through, I will relist the bike and maybe get to interact with the fellow in the initial post again, I am pretty damn sure he will be still looking with his winning personality.

Well, you are more trusting than me.  I always ask for a deposit, too many flakes out there.

Do you mind stating the "full asking price"?  [understand if you'd rather not]

I have a K6 that I'll be selling soon and by all accounts, these bike values have been rising...

What on that very good looking blue bike can be sold for only $50US except for one blinker? ;D
I'm sure you will make a good sell on that one.

I guess a beauty can be bought for $50US, but for an hour only, max!!! ;D ;D

I've sold many bikes in the last 5-6 years and every single time, I'll get at least one email from some guy who will tell me the bike isn't worth what I'm asking and if I will accept $X less, he will do me a favor and take it off my hands.

I’m glad to hear it! It’s not just happening to me. Every time is a new experience..... I’ve got one happening right now. After it’s over, will add to these complaints!

Yesterday I listed my H1 on the internet. The first message went like this.
" I know what these bikes are worth and you want to much. I'm chasing a stinger (suzuki 125cc) "

What the! .Anyway , came to my senses. will keep it.
