Well I got myself a surprise yesterday. My oldest son who just got into riding motorcycles in 2019 purchased himself a little Yamaha TW200. He’s loving that little bike, and rightfully so. They’re fun bikes. I’ve been accustomed to bigger bikes throughout my life except for the CL77 which I off’d almost two years ago. Anyway, once my son got the bug for riding, that little 200cc bike created a thought to go bigger. Last year I met him at a local Honda dealer and he picked up a CB500X. No test drive, and I don’t know if he’d ridden a bike bigger than his Yami, and I didn’t ask.
He texted me the other day and asked if I’d be interested in buying his CB. He and his family are headed out of the America’s end of this month. I asked how much? Not being too interested in a ADV type bike, I wasn’t sure what to think. Only 1,377 miles on the OD. He said, “I’ll sell it to you for a buck”. Really...a buck. Well, let me get to the bank tomorrow. “Happy Fathers Day he said with a laugh. I think it was too much for him after the Yamaha.
Anyway, I took possession yesterday, for $1.00, a stock 2020 CB500X. Not knowing anything about this bike other than the price was right, I’ve discovered this this bike sounds like a twin thumper. It has crazy torque. More than enough get the hell out of my way acceleration and a similar stance/feel like my 78CB750. 6speed, common Honda Red/Black/Silver colors. Nimble in the turnarounds, and feels well balanced too. The only thing I must get used to is throttle response. Super touchy. I’m moving out of So.Cal this week, so I’m looking forward to hard surface off-road exercises and the overall getting used to a new to me bike. Oh-and a ho lotta plastic around the front end. Anyone has anything to add about this model, let’s hear it.
Thanks and you guys have a great Fathers Day.
