You and I are at about the same place, I made a gas tank out of a power steering fluid bottle and fired mine up sunday but I sent all the body panels out for paint (I work at a dealership, killer discount) so I am now stuck waiting. I just rewired mine too and It was with a little trepidation I pushed the starter button. But all is well and I am sure yours will be too.

Looking pretty damn good there, Love the paint. Wasnt so sure about the wheels when you started this post but now that the tank is on it looks killer.

I agree, that bike is fantastic . . . but it's not a rat rod. I guess that term has been mangled a bit by the recent interest in "Rat rod" street rods. Rat rods used to be truly ratty: some kid's daily driver/rolling restoration that never quite got fully restored. Bare welds, primer, and old blankets thrown over rotting seats were the rat rod rule.

Now, you see guys like Chip Foose (and 750rus) building "rat rods" that are near perfect, with "suede paint" made to look like primer, and perfect, but retro-looking red wheels.  I guess the term is evolving. I still can't get my mind around the idea that you would strip down the frame and repaint it on a ratbike!

BTW, 750rus, if you don't know who Chip Foose is, do a quick google search. Lumping you in with him was intended as a compliment!

You're bike looks really nice.  I plan painting my 550 black with the red checker board pattern down the tank as well.  After seeing your bike I like it even more.  I hope you don't mind but I think I'll go with the red rims as well.  I think I better do something different or I could end up with a smaller version of your bike! ;D  Very nicely done!  Ride it with pride.

thanks alot for all the comments, guys.i really appreciate the interest everyone has taken in my old bike. -cheers-

as for calling it a "rat rod", i guess i am using the term a little loosely. " retro " would probably be a better word. rat rod seems to apply to alot of things these days. your right cowboy, there's nothing quite as cool as a true "rat rod".

i would love to post some bigger pics, but i don't know how. i've been trying to use photobucket.
