Still watching the thread I don't have much to add other than make sure when you get a replacement caliper or fix your old one that the channel in which the brake piston seal sits is really really clean (many ppl use a pick or something small like that to get the crusty stuff out of the groove where the seal will seat... I think i need to adjust the needles on my carbs too so let me know how it goes.  Keep up the good work! It's threads like these that motivate me to work on my 750! I think the valve guides/seals are going gone on my #3cyl .  So I needed to pull the engine anyway... and tjust as the weather is getting good. Now I've got a shop to work in instead of a carport so I'm actually looking forward to it.

thanks for the responses guys.

i believe my carbs are different than yours Jevfro, as i have a k7 model.
either way, it sounds like a job for another day.
My main concern is getting the tail lights in time for the event tonight. C'mon UPS!!!

not sure if the brake piston is seized or not. I was able to get it to move with the pressure from the master cylinder and was able to push it back into the caliper with my vice (it required a bit of force). But knowing how dirty it was and having to clean out some crud before i could even bleed it, my hopes are not high.
the bike stops when i squeeze the brake, just not as well as i would like it too.

OK, so my taillights didn't show up in time (i left at 5:30 and according to UPS they were delivered at 5:34), but i went to the event anyway. TONS of cool bikes!

the brake squeeling seems to be getting better, but the mid-range misfire isn't. I took out the exhaust end-cap last night on the ride home and it made it much worse, so i'm pretty damn sure it's a lean condition.
how hard is it to adjust the needles in these things?
do i have to remove the carbs?


keep in mind - i have the later model carbs.

what year/type carbs. On mine you definately have to remove the carbs, but the adjustment is not that hard.

Thr brake piston should move back in without a vice or C-clamp or such.  When new just the pressure of your hand can do it.

all right, i decided to tear into the carbs anyway.
after pulling them off the engine i stared at them for a bit and decided to start separating them...
it wasn't until i was fussing with the 2nd carb that i realized i could take the slide and needle out with them still connected (this would have saved me some time).
so away i went, pulled the slides one at a time and adjusted the clip - all four of them were on the very top notch - so i moved them down to the 2nd to last notch.
the bike runs MUCH better now - though there is a bit of a flat spot and full-throttle isn't perfect (could probably use a larger jet).

unfortunately, now my clutch is slipping...
any quick fixes you guys know of?
The cable is adjusted all the way in and it still lets out very late - so i'm thinking a new clutch is in order.

ha ha, don't know why i didn't think of Barnett in the first place - it's what i have in my monster!

it seems to be getting better - i might try changing the oil and hope for the best

right now I'm debating between covering my pipes in exhaust wrap - or - polishing them up... How long will the shine last? i did it to my Ducati and it almost immediately turned into a gold/brown color (this was further down the line near the muffler).

On my 350F I have a set of custom made 4-to-1's that were black crome many years ago and so they never should the signs of heat (blue or gold/brown).  Today the crome is shot and the headers are in faded red right now but I just painted the collecter/megaphone in a color called Cast Iron by Duplicolor and it is good for 500 deg F.  I might try it on the headers as well.

another update:
took the bike out for a pretty extended ride today.. it ran great - right until the end-cap flew out on the freeway... so much for that
now it's loud, obnoxious, and hates full-throttle. It's pretty amazing how much of a difference that little piece of metal made.

i think i need to pull the plugs again, and see what the mixture is at.
before the cap flew out (it was on the way home), it stumbled a bit when i would get into some throttle. Makes me think it's a bit rich cause once it got into the higher RPMs it would level out.

on a side note, i figured out how to shoot a pretty nice ball of fire out the exhaust....
...this was after the cap flew out

all right, i'm getting real tired of waiting for my friend to fix my gallery site. So i'll post some pics on photobucket for you guys.

The furry seat is temporary till i can get one upholstered.
it helps - but it still hurts!

the white bar on the back is actually my taillight and turn signals.
















since these were taken i lost the end-cap for the muffler on the freeway.
If you don't remember i cored out the exhaust so it was pretty loud with the end-cap = well now it's REALLY loud (i have to wear ear-plugs wherever i go).

i think i'm going to change the mirrors for some CRG hindsights - i have them on the monster and love them. I can't see #$%* outta these.

next up is a dual disk conversion, custom rear-sets, Re-Jet the carbs, Header wrap - or polished headers, "modern" handlebar switches, a competition baffle for the muffler, and a new paint job.
unfortunately the place where i got my paint neglected to mention that this paint wasn't solvent resistant when i told them i was putting it on a GAS TANK...
so i may have to have it done professionally.
i would like to relocate the electrics and get a custom oil-tank as well.. but there isn't enough room for the battery under the seat.  :(

Yes... and I would like to see a picture of the tail/brake light lit up if you have a picture.

you can see it in the day time as well (i've asked several people) - probably better than the stock taillight.



you can see it a lot better in person. Plus the fact that they are LEDs means they turn on and off more abruptly than a conventional bulb.


the lights are from CustomDynamics and cost way too much ($110 for this setup)
i got it with a run/brake converter as well, so it gets brighter than that when a brake is applied

Looks Great Mr. Fry!  The rear is very Battlestar Galactica! ;)  However, it looks very, very clean without various bits sticking out.  How does the Turn signals work for that set-up?

the seat wasn't originally cut like that (with the arch out of the back). Unfortunately i road it down to Mods -N- Rockers and on the way home, hit a bump and it took out the bottom portion of the seat (this was before i had the lights on it). So originally, the seat was just flat across the back and the lights would have fit in a bit better.

The turn signals are just amber (yellow) LEDs that fit inside the clear tube on either side of the taillight (red LEDs).
they seem to work great, and i don't plan on changing them any time soon.

Pretty easy to install, just plug the wires into where the stock turn signals plugged into.

the run / brake light controller was easy as well, just had to figure out which wire goes where.
