I had the opportunity to ride a new Z900 Retro Style Cafe at the Kawasaki demo rides, so my son and I ventured to MotorCity PowerSports yesterday. We got only a 20 minute jaunt, 6 miles, through suburban Saturday afternoon traffic so it was tough to get much of a feel for the bike. 10 test riders with varying skill levels, with a leading and following escort bike. Coming to West Michigan next week. At least they are trying, but it wasn’t the greatest riders experience. It would be a lot nicer on a lonesome road with good asphalt and sweepers.
 The bike is totally modern excepting the tank and gauges, which mimic the earlier bikes. The bars were narrow and rolled a bit, making for a forward leaning position. Its just a little uncomfortable for somebody who is used to sitting up straight with wide bars. I never got a chance to get anywhere near top gear or redline, but the throttle is very responsive and it pulls well even at lower rpms. Sonny said it was similar to his cb900f Hornet.

I saw one today. A few years old with red details. It look really good, its heritage is visible. The owner liked the bikes handling.

Maybe not that forward position. But old US bikes had really high bars compared to Europe.

 That's the classic "root beer" first year color scheme the 1972/73 originals used Per. If I bought the newer one I think I would like the root beer. I am kind of keeping an eye out for an under priced Kaw ZXR. I've seen red and black but have to hold out for the classic Eddie Lawson green !

The demo bike had a gray fairing and a gray tank stripe and not the decent colors you are showing. Machine gray is not my favorite motorcycle color. It screams “paint me please”

They should provide all colors w graphics that where available during the entire Z1-900 era.

The M1 Concourse is not too far away and it has a 1.5 mile test track and is designed for just such an event as this.
A perfect venue for demo rides.... and likely a high dollar rental fee.
It was built on the site of the old GM truck plant at South Boulevard and Woodward.
Private garages for the well heeled motor aficionados.
Front row for the Woodward Dream Cruise.
