What is used to hold the replacement plastic housing to the metal base? I assumed they snap in but find they remain loose. I'm thinking a smear or two of black silicone?

I deleted a response which I posted in haste as soon as I realized that you were not talking about the later style with the crimped metal ring. (Marcel has some nice videos on his methods and jig for handling those).
Still, Marcel is possibly the best person in the world to answer your question. I have forwarded it on to him via email to see if we get a response.

Thanks for doing that legwork. I see it on ebay, prices vary wildly. jeez. From $1 a gram down to 125 grams for $8. L0L!
