Maybe: Mismatched Speedo and hub? Cb750k…
« on: July 04, 2021, 10:18:23 AM »
Continuing saga of p.i.t.a. basket I acquired in a pile of boxes.
Some of the parts turned out to be from other models… most are good and correct mid70s k5-friendly.

Question about this one: the flats on the hub seem to have no functional use with the speedo drive receiver I have.

Is there a different one that makes use of the flats?

Yeah darn it.  I think I answered my own question…
:-(

So in addition to the Speedo drive I need the “gear box retainer” in this shape as per item 3 on the blow up.

Someone with an early rim would probably be happy to trade.

The new chrome cover (750 or 500) is easier to find than the early drive which is rare and easiest way to do a twin disc

I think all the K hubs had the flats.  You don't need #3 in the parts diagram because you already have the correct drive.  The chrome cover #2 holds the drive you have to the hub.  It was only the very early K bikes that used the flats on the hub but they never changed the drawing.

You can make yours look like the 3 in drawing.. but the right 2 will let  you run what you have..

This is what the proper #2 part looks like. Also, the K7 hub did not have flats.
