Bearing question
« on: July 15, 2021, 02:22:46 AM »
I'm rebuilding a  Honda cb77 1965. I try to buy a bearing for my transmission but I can't find it. Here what I can read on it: koyo 6206NS4.
I did some research but I can't find the meaning of NS4!?!
Someone can tell me where I could buy a new one,I would like to buy a good quality bearing !

Thank you

Bert

I rebuilt Machine tools 30 years ago, even then some of the older manufacturer's codes were not available to cross check. Generally I would select the correct size, the 6209 part, then select the current designation for retainer, or seals.  Bearing Clearance was always one of the hard calls things to determine, I learned that unless the bearing was subjected to high temperature differential between the inner or outer race, standard clearance was suitable. I would expect this to be true with transmission bearings.

With Transmission bearings one of the problems is the retaining ring groove, Honda seems to have had special bearings made.  a good machine shop with a quality lathe and ceramic tooling can cut them...Money

Modern bearings from quality bearing companies are generally better quality then bearings were then.  Better Steel, tighter manufacturing tolerances. I trusted SKF NSK, or KOYO.  (in the past I preferred Fafnir and other US manufactures. They have been bought up.)

Bert,

I searched for the meaning of NS4 with no luck.

Maybe the 'NS' in NS4 is actually HS?

I did look at the CB77 Parts manual transmission parts diagram. It lists this information;

Ref #23, part # 91033-259-000, BEARING, ball, 6305HS

Found #23 at CMS - https://www.cmsnl.com/products/bearing-6305hs_91003259000/  - Euros 21.50 ~ Dollars $25.38

Ref #24, part # 91004-259-000, BEARING, ball, 6206HS

Found 91004-259-000 on eBay here - https://www.ebay.com/p/1311840437  - $52.58 + $5.99 shipping

CMS does not currently have availability of the 6206HS bearing.

Hope this helps,
Mark K.

C3 and C4 refer to the bearing clearance or how loose the race to balls are in the bearing...
