R1 stamp cam?? or R7?
« on: July 13, 2021, 08:46:35 AM »
Can anyone tell me if this says R1? or R7?

https://photos.app.goo.gl/zDtrTqLTTCMBSWUJ8

I think its a 1 but dunno...

I searched the forum and if it is an R1 it may be a good cam?

I have a 78 cb750F with an 836 kit and have the option of either this cam or a guy down the street has a cx2 which I think is a web 41a.

Would one of these cams work well or should I try to source a different one?

I like low to mid range usable power, not looking for anything wild in the top end

thanks

My 78K arrived with an R2 cam, this is the advice I was given:

Dave is correct about the cam's r2 marking indicating it is oem and it does not tell you anything about what year 750 it is from.  It is possible that it is a re-grind though.  Look for stamped markings, not cast in.  Regrind stamps are usually found on the ends of the cam.  392 is part number code for 77/78k cb750's, iirc.

It is a Honda cam. That's it. It means nothing about the "grind" just the blank it was cast as.

And to add to Sean's from Alan, -392 started with the 1975 CB750F, the 76 F and the 77/78 K.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
